Family-run florist refuses to pay for shop's shocking rose-coloured makeover - as townsfolk mock the unfortunate results online
A family-run florist refused to pay for its shop shocking rose-coloured makeover as townspeople mocked the results online. Robert's Florist, located in the historic mining town of Brynmawr, opted to revamp the store painting a fluorescent pink in a bid to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. But a row has since erupted between the florist and its decorator, Royal Shine after the building was left half-painted. Florist Sarah Jane Evans Nicklon, 41, said she knew there would by issues with the job being done, despite having purchased 36 tubs of the 'Pink Ribbon Care' colour. Florist Sarah Jane Evans Nicklon, 41, said of the job, which was started five weeks ago: 'We were really excited for the project and then from day one we had concerns about how the job was being done. 'There was no cleaning of the building, the walls weren't treated and the contractor said that they would start from the top and work their way down, but they did the opposite. 'The windows weren't sanded down and the masonry paint was directly applied. There was no clean-up after every day as promised. 'Despite many efforts of us raising our concerns with the contractor many mistakes were made, and we felt we had no choice but to terminate the contract before any more damage was done to our property.' But now her decorating nightmare has been turned into an online meme, with AI generated images being shared poking fun at the unique colour. Some mocked the shop by suggesting the town's streets should be repainted different shades of pink in a petition. While other photoshopped pictures depicted the local ASDA and cars covered in a striking pink colour. And the florist has taken the jokes in their 'stride' because of the positive comments from people, Sarah said. 'There's been phone calls, customers coming in off the street saying it'll be lovely when it's done properly,' she said. 'We just want it to be a happy time and not a sad time it's been really stressful I didn't want it to affect my staff.' Robert's Florist claimed they refused payment because of the early termination. They have since hired a new contractor to finish the job. Royal Shine responded in a statement online: 'We have been recently painting the Robert's Florist Brynmawr in Brynmawr and what a shocking experience from start to finish* 'From the start we had a good interaction and really high hopes with the job. Started well and we was going along nicely. And the florist has taken the jokes in their 'stride' because of the positive comments from people, Sarah said. 'But from the start never had a word in. The owner wanted everything done his way or no way which we can do that but won't look right as we do it in sections. 'We listened to him and this is what happened. I definitely would not recommend anyone doing work for these people.' The post added that the company was 'overall very shocked' by the experience and noted that the company had 'paint[ed] hundreds of houses or buildings' - and also worked with some of the 'biggest' companies in the UK.
