MIRI (June 10): Miri is gaining recognition as a vibrant centre for creative economy and modern lifestyle, as evident through its diverse event calendar. Deputy Miri Mayor Councillor Ariffin Mohamad said he was delighted to see the diversity of events happening in Miri city, and that these events can contribute positively to the local economy. 'Miri is no longer just an oil or tourism city. It is increasingly being recognised as a hub for the creative economy and lifestyle. 'Events such as music festivals, concerts, food fairs, deep-sea fishing competitions and community carnivals attract participants and visitors from outside of the city, help boost the hospitality, food and transport sectors, while at the same time, local vendors benefit from increased product and service sales,' he said when officiating the closing ceremony of the 'Barber Takeover 1.0 2025' event held from June 4 to 8. Organised by Posh Work in collaboration with the Sarawak Bumiputra Entrepreneurs Chamber, the five-day event featured 60 participants from Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Sarikei, Mukah, Bau, Lawas, Miri and Brunei Darussalam. The main highlight, the Barber Battle, was divided into categories namely Classic Cut and Creative Cut. Dzulkarnain Manudin from Lawas emerged as the champion in the Classic Cut category, taking home a prize of RM1,500 and a professional clipper. The second and third places were won by Mohd Abi Rafdi Suhaili of Miri and Russell Teo Kien Huat of Kota Kinabalu, respectively. Mohd Abi took home RM1,000 and a professional clipper, while Teo earned RM500 and professional scissors.
