Thousands attend Aidiladha thanksgiving ceremony at Sarawak State Mosque

Themed 'Embracing Faith and Sacrifice,' the prayer was led by Sarawak Chief Imam Dato' Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi, according to a report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas). The event, organised by the Sarawak Islamic Council, was graced by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who attended in support of the occasion. Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, State Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki. The ceremony began with the slaughtering of sacrificial animals witnessed by the dignitaries, accompanied by the takbir that enlivened the atmosphere. Next, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari and Dato' Sri Fadillah participated in the slaughtering of sacrificial meat as a symbol of the thanksgiving ceremony. The highlight of the ceremony was the slaughter of sacrificial cattle, witnessed by the guests of honour. Wan Junaidi, Abang Johari and Fadillah jointly performed the slaughtering of sacrificial meat as a symbolic gesture of the thanksgiving ceremony. Following the religious rites, Tun Wan Junaidi personally distributed sacrificial meat to 30 recipients, comprising converts and asnaf (eligible zakat recipients) in Kuching. In total, 100 recipients benefitted from the sacrificial meat distribution during the ceremony.
