MIRI (June 8): This year's Gawai Dayak celebration in Miri received an added touch of joy for several families and underprivileged groups, thanks to a food aid initiative spearheaded by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew.
A total of 200 food baskets were distributed to residents of Kampung Tudan Desaras Phase 6, while another 30 were given to members of the Miri branch of the Sarawak Society for the Disabled.
The contributions were presented on Thursday by Councillor Leslie Lau, who represented Ting during the handover ceremony.
Lau shared that Ting remains committed to supporting the local community, particularly those in need, and is especially attentive during festive periods.
'This initiative is aimed at ensuring everyone, regardless of background, can take part in the Gawai Dayak festivities. It's a reflection of the unity and harmony among Sarawakians,' Lau said.
He added that festive seasons should not only be a time for reunion, but also an opportunity to promote charitable efforts that make a real difference in people's lives. food aid Gawai Dayak lead Leslie Lau Sebastian Ting
