Kate Hudson's New '80s Perm Couldn't Be More Goldie Hawn-Coded

Kate Hudson revealed the first look at her new film, Song Sung Blue. In the photos, she debuted an '80s perm that makes her look just like her mom, Goldie Hawn.I know, I know—it's important to chart your own path through life. And Kate Hudson absolutely has!! But if my mom was Goldie Hawn, you can bet I'd be doing everything in my power to be just like her—perming my hair and ignoring most current styling trends included. On Tuesday, April 22, the first look at Hudson's new film Song Sung Blue landed. Premiering this Christmas, the biopic focuses on The Sardinas, a down-on-their-luck married pair of musicians that decided to form a Neil Diamond tribute act in the '80s. Claire (that would be Hudson) and Mike (he'll be played by Hugh Jackman!) definitely knew who Goldie was at the time—Claire's hairstyle can attest. Though we only have one photo to go off so far, the still is very telling. In it, an '80s-fied Hudson and Jackman sit down at a keyboard and sing their hearts out. And while I know it's the 46-year-old in the photo, she really looks just like her mother. In the snap, Hudson's hair is middle parted and blown out to fit the "bigger is better" theme of the era. Her curtain bangs graze her eyebrows just like her mama's did back in the day, and her crimped, curly blonde hair has a texture that could only be the work of permanent solution. Gone are the beach waves. In their place: pouf. Hudson was born in 1979, which means she was just a babe when the Sardinas story was being written. Still, I'm sure she remembers the styles well—especially because she had her iconic mom to look up to. "Loved every second making this beautiful film, working with the most lovely work husband you could ask for, [Hugh Jackman], singing the iconic songs of Neil Diamond, led by our wonderful director [Craig Brewer]," wrote Hudson in an Instagram post that showed off the style (I'm just waiting for Hawn to repost). "More love notes for everyone involved to come… but right now I am just so excited to share with you that we have a release date." As the months fly by and ads for the film roll out, I'm sure we'll be seeing more of the hairstyle. Here's hoping Hudson decides to go full method with her press tour styling... and then maybe stars in a '60s period piece? I wouldn't be mad about seeing her in a Goldie Hawn-inspired shag, too.
