In a tragic incident, a woman was found dead in a hotel room in Paharganj area of Delhi on Sunday, while her male companion has been arrested by the police in connection with the case. The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old Sarika and the man as 31-year-old Sachin. According to Delhi Police, a PCR call was received at Nabi Karim police station, wherein a hotel staff said that a couple was staying in the hotel overnight. On Sunday morning, Sarika was found lying dead in the bathroom while Sachin was missing. Preliminary investigation suggest that the woman was allegedly strangulated using a drawstring, they said. The couple had checked in on Saturday at about 4 PM. They ordered food on Saturday evening, which was served in their room. The next morning, only Sachin was seen leaving the hotel premises and the woman was found dead, prompting the hotel to alert authorities. 'At 09:47 AM today, a PCR call was received at PS Nabi Karim, wherein the caller, a staff member of a Hotel in Paharganj, informed that a couple was staying in the hotel overnight. In the morning, Sarika (29) was found lying dead in the bathroom while Sachin (31) was missing,' said the Delhi Police. 'Preliminary findings suggest strangulation using a drawstring. The body has been taken into custody. A case under Section 103(1), BNS is being registered at PS Nabi Karim. Investigation has been taken up. The accused, Sachin, has been apprehended,' said the police added. Sarika's body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Further investigations are underway. A nine-year-old girl was found stuffed in a suitcase at a neighbour's house in northeast Delhi's Dayalpur area, triggering protests by family members and locals who alleged sexual assault and murder of the minor. Police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed in the area on Sunday to maintain law and order. According to news agency PTI, police sources said the perpetrator seems to have fled after stuffing her in a suitcase. Senior officials of the Delhi Police said all angles are being probed, including sexual assault. "We are awaiting the autopsy report to confirm the cause of death. Teams have been formed to nab the absconding accused. We are taking this matter with utmost seriousness," a police officer said. The child, a resident of Nehru Vihar, had gone to give ice to a relative living nearby around 7 pm, her family said. When she did not return home for a long time, her parents began searching for her. According to the victim's father, they approached several relatives and neighbours, but no one had seen her after her brief visit to one relative's house. "She had only gone to deliver some ice to our relatives. They said she stayed for five minutes and left. But she never came back. We looked everywhere. Finally, someone told us she was seen entering a house nearby. That's where we found her in a suitcase," he said. The girl's father alleged that when he reached the house, it was locked. Suspecting something was wrong, he broke the lock and entered the room. Inside, he found his daughter stuffed in a bloodstained suitcase. They rushed her to a local clinic, but the doctor asked them to take her to a hospital immediately. At Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital in Shastri Park, doctors declared her brought dead, the father said.

Doctor accused in Pune Porsche crash held in kidney racket
Dr Ajay Taware, former head of forensic medicine department at the government-run Sassoon General Hospital and an accused in the Pune Porsche car crash case, has now been arrested by Pune city police in connection with alleged malpractices in a kidney transplant conducted at Ruby Hall Clinic in 2022. Police took Taware into custody from Yerwada Central jail on Wednesday. Cops produced him before a magistrate court on Thursday. The court remanded him to police custody till June 2 for further investigation. A first Information Report (FIR) in the kidney transplant malpractice case was lodged at Koregaon Park police station on May 11, 2022. Police said a woman, Sarika Sutar from Kolhapur, had been facing financial problems and allegedly agreed to give her kidney to Amit Salunkhe of Moshi (in Pimpri Chinchwad) by posing as his wife Sujata Salunkhe for Rs 15 lakh offered to her by two 'agents'. A 'kidney swap operation' was performed at the Pune based Ruby Hall Clinic in March 2022, when Sarika's kidney was given to a woman hailing from Baramati, while the kidney of Baramati woman's mother was given to Amit Salunkhe. Police said kidney swapping is allowed once all legal norms are fulfilled, but any financial transaction and forgery in doing so is illegal. After the kidney swap, Sarika did not receive the money she was promised. So she complained to Pune city police and Ruby Hall Clinic authorities. After a preliminary probe, police referred the matter to the state health department, which submitted its inquiry report to a court in Pune. Based on directions issued by the court, a case was registered at Koregaon Park police station under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994, along with Indian Penal Code sections pertaining to cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy. Dr Sanjog Kadam, Deputy Director of Medical Services, Pune, lodged the FIR in this case. Police initially booked 15 people, including Sarika, Amit Salunkhe, hsi real wife Sujata, alleged 'agents' Ravi Rodge and Abhijit Gathne as well as senior management members and doctors of Ruby Hall Clinic. The FIR stated that fake documents were submitted to the hospital for kidney transplant. In these documents, allegedly prepared by the 'agents', Sarika Sutar posed as Amit's wife Sujata Salunkhe. The FIR held the Ruby Hall authorities and doctors responsible, claiming they did not thoroughly scrutinise the documents and sent them to the Regional Authorisation Committee at Sassoon General Hospital. Police said Dr Taware had been heading this Regional Authorisation Committee and he allegedly allowed the 'kidney swap transplant' without the forged documents being verified submitted by the kidney donor (Sarika) and organ receiver Amit. Police told the court on Thursday that Sarika appeared as Sujata Salunkhe before the committee headed by Taware. Police said Sarika did not give satisfactory answers to the committee. There were discrepancies in her statements pertaining to property and previous medical treatments she received from Amit Salunkhe. Police said Sarika's behaviour before the committee was suspicious, Besides, it was visible her age was different from the actual age of Sujata Salunkhe. Still, the committee headed by Taware allowed the fake person for the 'kidney swap operation', police said. Police sought Taware's custody for seven days to probe if he was involved in any malpractices in the nine kidney swap transplants held during his tenure as head of the Regional Authorisation Committee at Sassoon hospital. Earlier, the police had arrested two agents or middlemen Ravi Rodge and Abhijit Gathne in this case. Police informed the court that chargesheet was filed against the duo on July 11, 2022. Also, a supplementary chargesheet was filed against Sarika Sutar, Amit Salunkhe and two others on October 10, 2022. Police told the court that charesheet was not filed against authorities and doctors of Ruby Hall Clinic as they were found involved in any illegal financial transactions acts in this case and had conducted the 'swap kidney operation' legally. Police said one Bhau Sawant is a wanted accused, while Amit's real wife Sujata was not chargesheeted. Meanwhile, last month, the Maharashtra Medical Council suspended the medical licence of Dr Ajay Taware, for 'gross misconduct and breach of medical ethics', following his alleged involvement in the Pune Porsche crash case. ACP Ganesh Ingle of crime branch is investigating the case further. Role in Porsche crash case Two IT engineers lost their lives after the minor driver of a Porsche car allegedly crashed his vehicle into them, leading to their deaths, on May 19, 2024. The police investigation revealed that when the minor driver, the son of a prominent realtor, was taken to Sassoon Hospital after the accident for a medical examination, his blood sample was allegedly replaced with his mother's. The police arrested the minor's parents and others including Dr Taware for their alleged role in swapping blood samples. A DNA report on August 9, 2024, confirmed blood samples of two friends of the minor driver were also swapped at the hospital.

Balconies in Bloom: How Hyderabadis Are Cultivating Nature in Small Spaces
In Hyderabad's fast-paced urban environment, where space is at a premium, residents are transforming their balconies into lush, vibrant gardens. This growing trend of aesthetic gardening in compact flats is not just about beautifying spaces, it's about reconnecting with nature, boosting mental well-being, and practicing sustainability in everyday life. For many Hyderabadis, gardening is a nostalgic thread that links them to their roots. For Sarika, a 46-year-old homemaker from Puppalguda, gardening has always been a passion. 'I started gardening a long time ago. Even when space was limited at home, I took to terrace gardening,' she shares, adding, 'Planting and nurturing gives me a therapeutic, relaxing experience.' Her balcony garden features flowering plants, herbs, vegetables, and indoor greenery. With a flair for creativity, Sarika combines DIY and upcycled pots with decorative elements, turning her balcony into a living canvas. 'I let my balcony be my painting, and my plants, pots, and pathways be my palette. My garden is my creative outlet,' she adds. Despite space constraints, she has mastered the art of selecting smart, space-saving plants and containers. 'By God's grace, I have enough sunlight for my plants,' she says with a smile. She waters them mindfully, according to each species' needs, and uses homemade compost and organic pest control. Her vibrant garden has become a source of inspiration for neighbours and family members alike. Vinesh Kumar, a 33-year-old salaried employee living in Manikonda, began his gardening journey inspired by memories of his mother's balcony and rooftop gardens. His compact green space features flowering plants in clay pots and creatively reused glass bottles, an ideal match for his northeast-facing balcony that receives gentle morning sun. Though limited in space, Vinesh tends to his plants with care, using spray bottles for watering and inspecting regularly for pests. 'The best part is sitting on the balcony during the mornings and evenings, surrounded by plants, it's really relaxing,' he says. While no one has directly followed his example yet, he enjoys sharing his progress on social media.
