Sarikei cops nab friends for drug trafficking after RM9,000 meth found on living room table

SARIKEI (May 2): The Sarikei Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department arrested a man and a woman on Tuesday night in connection with drug trafficking activities.
Sarikei police chief Supt Aswandy Anis said they were apprehended during a raid on a house at 9.30pm.
'Upon further inspection, police discovered evidence suspected to be syabu (methamphetamine) with a gross weight of 82.20 grammes and an estimated value of RM9,042 on the living room table of the house,' he said in a statement.
He said both suspects are believed to have been involved in online distribution of syabu since early 2024 in Sarikei, Meradong, Tanjung Manis, and Belawai.
The friends have been remanded for seven days at the Sarikei police station lockup under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
'This case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
'If convicted, both suspects could face the death penalty or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane,' said Aswandy.
