RPS officer fires gun, injures dog

A Regina police officer fired their gun and injured a dog on Wednesday. A Regina Police Service news release states that at around 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, officers were dispatched to a residence on the 1500 block of Athol Street. It had been reported that two dogs had been taken without permission from another address and were believed to be at the Athol Street address, the release states. 'Officers arrived and engaged in a conversation with a person outside the residence. As the person turned to go back inside the home, two dogs ran out the front door and towards one of the officers,' the release reads. 'The officer discharged their firearm, injuring one of the dogs.' According to the release, officers provided 'first aid' to the dog before transporting it to the vet. No information was offered about its condition. It goes on to note that the incident remains under investigation and will be reviewed by the RPS Use of Force Review Board and reported to the Saskatchewan Police Commission.
