Nagpur multimodal logistics park starts commercial operations with plans for bangladesh rail and river route

1 2 Nagpur: The Multimodal Logistics Park Limited-Nagpur ( MMLP-Nagpur ) at Sindi, near Wardha, one of the flagship projects of Union minister Nitin Gadkari , commenced its commercial operations on Monday. Gadkari's goal is to establish a faster link to Bangladesh via rail, marine, and riverine routes through Sindi. The plan will be operational within the next two months, according to sources involved in the project. Popularly known as Sindi dry port , the facility received its first rake of Maruti cars on Monday afternoon. The facility has been established by National Highway Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). UK-based Delta Corp Holdings will further develop the infrastructure at the site. K. Sathianathan, independent director of NHLML and a key official involved in the project, told TOI that the train service transporting cargo to Bangladesh is expected to begin by July. The service will provide seamless transportation to Bangladesh, with cargo being transported to Haldia in West Bengal, from where it will continue to Dhaka via river and sea routes. This will reduce transit time by 10 to 12 days, with initial shipments including cotton and yarn. This marks the third logistics facility Sathianathan has overseen in the region, following the inland container depot (ICD) by Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) in the late 1990s and DLI Logistics' facility at Borkhedi. Executive director Kenisha Paliwal confirmed the company expects to merge with a NASDAQ-listed firm by June, enabling it to raise funds from institutional investors for global projects. The facility, spread over 150.42 acres, will be developed in three phases with an investment of Rs352 crore. Between 2024 and 2026, Rs137 crore will be invested in the first phase, covering 76.33 acres. The facility will feature a 10 lakh square foot warehouse, including a 20-acre open warehouse space, four rail lines, an ICD, and a customs facility.
