Faulty fan sparks residential fire in Sault Ste. Marie
Firefighters helped rescue the occupants – including cats -- of a residential building that caught fire in Sault Ste. Marie early Monday morning.
Firefighters helped rescue the occupants – including cats -- of a residential building that caught fire in Sault Ste. Marie early Monday morning.
Crews responded around 2 a.m. to the fire on Douglas Street, Sault Fire Services said in a news release.
'Upon arrival, flames were visible from the roof area of the residential structure,' the release said.
'Firefighters assisted an occupant and cats out of the basement area of the dwelling. Fire crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire.'
PUC Services and the Red Cross were called to attend the scene.
'After further investigation, the cause of the fire was determined to be a failure of a bathroom fan,' the release said.
'There is significant fire and smoke damage to the bathroom and attic area of the dwelling. There were no injuries to report.'
