Alleged northern Ont. assault ends with victim being struck by phone

On May 30 about 8:40 p.m., police responded to a 911 report assault in the 200 block of Selby Road. Officers determined that a 33-year-old man allegedly punched one victim in the head, while a 43-year-old woman allegedly struck one victim in the head and scratched them, then hit another victim in the head with a cellphone. 'The victims sustained minor physical injuries,' the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release. Authorities said that neither accused was known to the victims. Both were arrested within the hour. The male faces one count of assault, while the woman is charged with both assault and assault with a weapon. They were released on undertakings and are scheduled to appear in court on July 28.

Northern Ont. man charged with possession of child pornography

Marie Police Service's Technological Crime Unit. Police say detectives began investigating the accused in January following a report that he was in possession of digital child sexual abuse material. A search warrant was executed at the accused's residence on Feb. 25, and electronic devices were seized for forensic analysis. 'The investigation located multiple images and videos meeting the definition of child pornography under the Criminal Code,' police said in a news release. Man charged with assaulting Sault officer

Marie Police Services Building. On May 20 at about 1 p.m., the accused – already in custody on unrelated charges – was being escorted back to a holding cell when the incident occurred. 'While being escorted to a cell, the accused spit on a special constable,' the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release. 'The accused was placed back in a cell.' He was later charged with assaulting a peace officer and held in custody pending a bail hearing. Police have not released any further details about the incident. CTV News has reached out to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service for more information about the accused's unrelated charges and other details surrounding the incident but those messages have not yet been returned.
