Savannah Sips: The Wormhole Neighborhood Pub & Music Venue

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Authenticity, grunge and friendly folk are what make Wormhole a hotspot for young Savannahians, along with live rock music. Lesley Smits-Burnett, bartender for Wormhole, added that spontaneity also gives the pub, located on 2307 Bull Street near Starland Yard, its charm. '[Wormhole is] a little hole in the wall dive bar that if you don't know what it is, you're not going to know until you open the door,' Smits-Burnett said. 'And they're going to see things that just remind you of home and you're going to meet the absolute most people in the world.' As for the drink of choice? Nothing is more sacred at Wormhole than a Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) with a shot of Jameson. The bar has even won several awards for how much PBR they've sold. There are a few specialty drinks, like the 'Beetlejuice', which Smits-Burnett described as a 'take on a blackberry Sprite.' Decked out in dark, space-themed decor, what makes Wormhole fit into the Savannah nightlife scene is the live music. It is also what keeps customers, now trending much younger, coming back. 'Every Monday night we have open mic night, which is the longest running open mic in the city,' said Smits-Burnett. Artists that travel all over town specifically come on Monday nights so they can rehearse. Each Friday and Saturday night, Wormhole has some kind of music, either a concert or a local band. 'I will say I like where our location is,' Smits-Burnett said. 'I feel like we're the only thing in this area. That's exactly what we are. We are a dive bar. We are not pretentious. We don't try and be something we're not. We are just Wormhole.' For those with a taste of something off-the-wall and bold, Wormhole Neighborhood Pub & Music Venue is the spot for you. Especially with Pearl Jam serenading every sip. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Home opener: What's the best way to get a Savannah Bananas ticket?

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – The Savannah Bananas home opener was the hottest ticket in town Friday night. The Bananas versus Party Animals showdown was sold out months ahead of time, and the game was just the beginning of what is sure to be a lively season. 'We love baseball anyway, but seeing baseball with so much fun involved, like the dancing, and just them being able to have fun while playing,' one Bananas fan, Ashley Young, said. 'We're just really excited about it. I've been following them on TikTok forever. So, it's just like a dream come true.' Young isn't the only one hitting the follow button, though. The Bananas are at nine million followers and counting. However, with that level of popularity, it's not always easy to score tickets to a game. 'We're playing a 5,000-seat stadium,' President of the Savannah Bananas, Jared Orton, said. 'We can only play so many games. I think there's 300,000 people that live in Chatham County alone. We can't possibly have every single one of those people come to a game.' The Bananas are a sought-after act for locals and out of towners, meaning Savannahians are left with two options: enter the ticket lottery like everyone else or get them through someone with a connection. 'We're part of the homeschool coalition. So, we get those opportunities,' Bananas fans Dwayne and Karyna Sheaffer, said. '[Otherwise], it would be hit or miss. It would be a lot harder.' Still, the fan base continues to grow, and all ages are joining the fun. 'There are literally some of our first season ticket holders from day one, like they're still here again,' Orton said. According to Orton, the Bananas have 92 more games this season. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
