13,000 runners from 60 nations make Muscat Marathon a success
Muscat – The Experience Oman Muscat Marathon 2025 brought together a vibrant community of over 13,000 runners from more than 60 countries over February 21-22, providing a unique platform for local and international athletes to compete at the highest level.
Held under the patronage of Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and organised by Sabco Sports, with Al Mouj Muscat as founding partner and venue host, this year's event marked its most diverse and successful edition yet.
With record-breaking participation, the marathon reaffirmed its status as a world-class running event, showcasing Oman's rich culture, stunning landscapes and growing prominence on the global sporting stage.
Runners of all ages and abilities competed in a variety of categories, including the highly anticipated 42km marathon, 21km half marathon, 10km and 5km races, a children's race and 2.5km Fun Run sponsored by Ooredoo, all designed to encourage inclusivity and community engagement, a press release said.
H E Azzan al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Tourism in Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, highlighted the event's role in positioning Oman as a premier international sports and tourism destination. 'The Experience Oman Muscat Marathon is a prime example of how sports can elevate Oman's global image. This event has successfully demonstrated our nation's capacity to host large-scale international events while showcasing Oman's rich culture, warm hospitality and breathtaking landscapes. We look forward to continuing to support this event and similar initiatives as we work to consolidate Oman's position as a leading global hub for sports and tourism.'
Reflecting on the event's success, Sayyid Khalid al Busaidi, Chairman of Sabco Sports, expressed his pride in the marathon's achievements. 'We are incredibly proud of the success of the Experience Oman Muscat Marathon 2025.'
