KUCHING (April 29): A 25-year-old man claimed trial in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of possessing a knife in a public place without lawful purpose.
Sazri Sakawi entered the plea of not guilty upon being charged under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.
The section provides for a minimum prison sentence of five years and a maximum of 10 years, as well as whipping, upon conviction.
According to the charges, Sazri allegedly committed the offence at around 11.50am on April 25 at the Kuching International Airport car park.
After his not guilty plea was recorded, Sazri requested bail on the grounds that his wife is pregnant and they have a young child.
However, deputy public prosecutor Ruvinasini Pandian informed the court that no bail would be offered as the offence is non-bailable.
Judge Saiful Bahari Adzmi fixed May 27 for case management and confirmed that no bail would be offered to Sazri.
Sazri was unrepresented by legal counsel. Kuching Sessions Court lead Ruvinasini Pandian Saiful Bahari Adzmi
