District court building construction gets new deadline of April 2026

Indore: The public works department has set a new deadline of April 2026 for construction Indore district court new building by employing labourers in two to three shifts. The construction work had started in 2016 and since then almost nine years have passed, but, the building is yet to be completed. "The court's building work started in Scheme 140 in 2016, but it's not yet completed due to different reasons, including contractors leaving the work. Three tenders for the work have been allotted so far. The new tender was allotted in June 2024, and now, the work is on in full swing," said PWD minister Rakesh Singh, who inspected the under-construction building of the court near Pipliyahana pond on Wednesday. The minister stated that April 2026 is the deadline to complete the work. The state govt has made a plan to shift Indore district court, currently situated on MG Road next to Gandhi Hall, to the new location. But, a section of lawyers, along with environmentalists and locals, have been protesting against shifting of the court and the construction work next to the pond respectively.
