Lalrinpuii opens conference on substance use disorder

Aizawl: Social welfare minister Lalrinpuii inaugurated the two-day International Conference on Substance Use Disorder (ICSUD 2025) at Mizoram University on Thursday.
The department of clinical psychology under the School of Medical and Paramedical Sciences, Mizoram University, organised this significant event.
During the souvenir launch, Lalrinpuii noted that drug abuse significantly impedes the Mizo community's progress. She highlighted the govt's current initiatives against substance abuse while emphasising the serious physical and mental consequences of drug dependency.
The minister called for unified, urgent action to address this critical issue. She commended Mizoram University for hosting this international conference and expressed optimism that the proceedings would enhance intervention strategies.
Lalhriatzuali Ralte, director of state social welfare, women & child development department, detailed various departmental programmes targeting substance abuse. She stressed the importance of coordinated efforts between experts, the public, churches and government bodies in prevention and rehabilitation.
The conference assembles specialists, professionals and practitioners from India and overseas.

They will exchange knowledge and conduct training sessions on substance abuse management under the theme "Global Perspectives, Local Challenges and Integrated Solutions".
The event features collaboration between Mizoram University's School of Medical and Paramedical Sciences and partner institutions including Zoram Medical College & Hospital (ZMC&H), Mizoram College of Nursing (MCON), and the Regional Institute of Paramedical and Nursing Sciences (RIPANS).
Students and faculty from these and other institutions across Mizoram and beyond are attending the conference.
MZU vice chancellor Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka acknowledged all contributors during the opening ceremony. Prof. Zokaitluangi, dean and conference director, recognised key supporters, while Dr M Sandhyarani Devi presented the conference theme.
