Former Lakers, Celtics Player Named in Bucks Report

Former Lakers, Celtics Player Named in Bucks Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. All indications are that the Milwaukee Bucks are not making any seismic changes this offseason. In other words, two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo will stay put even after their playoff struggles for the last three years. Advertisement By extension, that means the Bucks will try to add some help. The Bucks face a tough task because Damian Lillard will likely be out for the entire season as he recovers from an Achilles tear. Milwaukee will turn to free agency to try to build a better team around Antetokounmpo. Milwaukee has smartly managed their cap situation well. Trading Khris Middleton for Kyle Kuzma, along with Brook Lopez's contract off their books, could allow them to sign a big name on the free agent market this offseason with the midlevel exception. Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis AntetokounmpoBenny Sieu-Imagn Images ESPN's Brian Windhorst revealed that among the Bucks' targets is former Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics guard Dennis Schroder. Windhorst outlined how the Bucks' cap situation could allow them to sign Schroder to an expensive deal rather than a veteran's minimum. Advertisement "Rival teams suspect the Bucks will end up in the tax but keep their payroll below the $196 million first apron, which would open their ability to access more of the $14 million midlevel exception," Windhorst wrote. "They might need a large chunk of it for a starting point guard in place of Lillard, with the candidates including free agents such as Dennis Schroder, Tyus Jones and Malcolm Brogdon." Schroder played for the Lakers twice, the first time during the 2020-21 season and the second during the 2022-23 season. Schroder played half of the 2021-22 season for the Celtics. He helped the Lakers much more than he did for the Celtics, as he helped them reach the Western Conference Finals in 2023. He is also coming off a season in which he helped the Detroit Pistons have their best season in years. Even if the Bucks make a bid for him, the Pistons may not let him go. Boston Celtics alum Jeff Teague on Isaiah Thomas, Dennis Schroder tiff in '16 playoffs

Long before he would join the Boston Celtics backcourt, vet guard Dennis Schroder once had himself quite the encounter with Celtics fan favorite floor general Isaiah Thomas. Back when the King in the Fourth was still terrorizing Boston's opponents with his lightening-quick first step, IT and the Celtics collided with Schroder and the Atlanta Hawks in the 2016 NBA Playoffs. Another future Celtic on that roster (there were several former or future Boston players on the team as well, including a trio of Celtics big alumni Mike Muscala, Kris Humphries, and Al Horford), Jeff Teague, recently recounted on his "Club 520" podcast an altercation between Thomas and Schroder he just couldn't help but smile about in retrospect despite the on-court violence it entailed. Nets final grade for the 2024-25 NBA season

Nets final grade for the 2024-25 NBA season The Brooklyn Nets ended the 2024-25 NBA season with a 26-56 record and while that was the sixth-worst mark in the league, the Nets had a successful season in certain regards. Brooklyn entered the season projected to be one of the worst teams in the league and while they finished the season that way, it didn't look like that in the beginning as they were winning more games than expected. Through the first two months of the season, the Nets were 9-11, putting them on pace to finish the season slightly under .500 with a chance to make the playoffs given how much parity resides in the Eastern Conference. Much of the reason for Brooklyn playing that well was due to players like Cam Thomas, Dennis Schroder, and Cam Johnson leading the way in terms of scoring and facilitating. Schroder was the catalyst in particular due to how well he was playing to begin the season as he averaged 18.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game while shooting 44.1% from the field and 40.5% from three-point land. In what could be interpreted as general manager Sean Marks and company trying to preserve the chances of the team getting the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Schroder was traded to the Golden State Warriors at the earliest chance the team could on Dec. 15. December was the month where the season turned for the Nets in the positive direction with regards to the team recommitting to the rebuild as Brooklyn finished the month with a 3-9 record. To further ensure that the Nets would not be too competitive moving forward, Marks traded Dorian Finney-Smith to the Los Angeles Lakers on Dec. 29 in exchange for D'Angelo Russell and Maxwell Lewis, both players having some good moments with the team this season. From January on, Brooklyn did not finish with a winning record except in February when the team finished with a 6-5 record, but played just 11 games due to the All-Star Game being played within the month. With Thomas playing just 25 games during the season, Brooklyn was without its leading scorer for the majority of the season and that played into the Nets losing more games while also being able to give players like Keon Johnson more playing time as well. Along the way, the Nets were able to evaluate some of the younger talent on the team while also seeing players like Johnson, Thomas, and Trendon Watford have career-years due to the coaching of rookie head coach Jordi Fernandez. In a season where player development and evaluation was the key, Brooklyn did not meet those standards in certain regards with players like Noah Clowney and Dariq Whitehead not showing much improvement. Ultimately, the season was a successful one for the Nets as they know that they have a good head coach in Fernandez while seeing some players have some of the best years of their career. However, there aren't many players that the team aren't sure of heading into the future and with four first-round picks and the most projected cap space in the league, Brooklyn could look significantly different next season. Pistons snap NBA playoff skid, Clippers beat Nuggets

LOS ANGELES, United States: The Detroit Pistons snapped their record 15-game NBA playoff losing streak with a 100-94 victory over the New York Knicks on Monday to level their Eastern Conference first-round series at one game apiece. Cade Cunningham scored 33 points with 12 rebounds and Dennis Schroder added 20 points off the bench — including a go-ahead three-pointer with 55.7 seconds left — as the Pistons thwarted another Knicks' rally bid. The Los Angeles Clippers also bounced back from a game-one defeat, beating the Nuggets 105-102 in Denver behind a brilliant 39-point performance from Kawhi Leonard. Leonard made 15 of his 19 shot attempts and the Clippers withstood NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic's triple-double of 26 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists to level their Western Conference series at 1-1. The Pistons, in the playoffs for the first time since 2019, notched their first playoff victory since game four of the 2008 Eastern Conference finals against the Boston Celtics. Two days after the Knicks authored a 21-0 scoring run to rally in game one, the Pistons were pushed to the finish in a fast-paced, physical encounter at Madison Square Garden. They led by as many as 15 in the third quarter, but the Knicks had cut the deficit to eight going into the final period. New York star Jalen Brunson scored 14 of his 37 points in the fourth and fed Josh Hart for a dunk that tied it at 94-94 with 1:15 to play. But Schroder answered immediately, drilling a three-pointer that put the Pistons ahead for good. The Knicks came up empty on three straight possessions while Schroder and Jalen Duren connected at the free-throw line to seal Detroit's win. Tobias Harris scored 15 points and pulled down 13 rebounds and Duren had 12 points and 13 boards for the Pistons, who host game three on Thursday. "Feels good to represent the city like we did tonight," Cunningham said. "It's something that the city's been waiting on a long time, so we feel good about it and we're ready to get back to the crib and perform in front of them." Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau was irked at what he considered inconsistent officiating, noting that the Pistons went to the free-throw line 34 times to the Knicks' 19. "If Cunningham's driving and there's marginal contact and he's getting to the line, then Jalen (Brunson) deserves to be getting to the line," Thibodeau said. VINTAGE LEONARD It was another pulsating contest in Denver, where the Clippers bounced back from a narrow game-one overtime defeat thanks to a vintage performance from Leonard — an NBA champion in 2014 and 2019 who has been hindered by injury in recent seasons. Leonard set the tone early, making nine of his 10 shots in the first half and sending the Clippers into halftime up 55-52 with a buzzer-beating three-pointer. In a game that featured 18 lead changes, the Nuggets tied it at 100-100 with 2:07 to play on a three-pointer by Murray. But Norman Powell came up with a steal and drained a three-pointer and Leonard made a jump shot to put the Clippers up 105-102. Leonard stole a Jokic pass with 37.3 seconds left and Los Angeles held on as Christian Braun and Jokic missed in the waning seconds. "I just kept going and stayed in the zone," Leonard said. "I didn't worry about what shots were making or missing. I just kept shooting." — AFP
