Ring Day Preparations Are Happening in Aggieland
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (FOX 44) – It is almost that time of the year again – when the spring is upon us and so is another special day dating back to the 1800s. A part of a special brother and sisterhood.
The Aggie Ring itself is one of the oldest Texas A&M traditions dating back to the first ring which debuted in 1889 – not too long after the university was founded. Students need to complete at least three-quarters of their degree in order to qualify to order the ring.
The Ring Day celebration started in 2000 and has become so large – with each student typically bringing family and friends. This year is the 25th anniversary of the Ring Day celebration, and the university is doing something a little more special.
'Yes, absolutely. We have an artist who will be on site during Ring Day. His name is Trey Stevens, and he will be painting a special still life, basically during Ring Day as it happens,' says Vice President of Former Students Scot Walker.
When he is done with the painting, it will be made in small print and given out to everyone who participated – truly making it special.
These rings are quality-checked multiple times to ensure that everyone has a treasured memento of being a part of one giant family spanning across decades.
