Del. Terry Kilgore elected Virginia House Republican Leader
VIRGINIA (WJHL) — Del. Terry Kilgore (R-Scott) was elected the Virginia House Republican Leader on Sunday. A post by Kilgore said he was honored to be elected to lead the House GOP. Kilgore represents the 45th District in Virginia, which encompasses Scott and Lee counties, part of Wise County, and the City of Norton. Kilgore will step into the role after current leader Del. Todd Gilbert submitted an offer to step down while he pursues a federal position as the U.S. attorney for Virginia's Western District. Virginia's Senate Republicans released the following statement on Sunday after Kilgore was elected House leader: 'I want to extend my sincere thanks to Republican Leader Todd Gilbert for his years of tireless service to the House of Delegates and to the people of Virginia. Police say driver twice struck Davenport officer who was directing traffic
A 34-year-old Davenport woman was in custody Saturday after Davenport Police say she twice struck an officer who was helping direct traffic near a Davenport school. Kaniya Williams faces felony charges of assault on persons in certain occupations – use/display of a weapon and interference with official acts – dangerous weapon, according to Scott County Court documents. Scott County Court arrest affidavits show that on Friday, May 30, uniformed officers were working at an awards assembly at Wood Intermediate School, 5701 N. Division St., to direct traffic 'when a disturbance occurred in the middle of Division Street.' After an investigation, police determined Williams was the driver of a white SUV about 11:30 a.m. that day. Officers instructed her that all vehicles must turn north onto Division Street from the parking lot. Williams said 'No' multiple times 'and willfully and intentionally accelerated her vehicle in an attempt to drive around the officer, ignoring commands to go the other direction,' affidavits say. An officer 'stepped in front of the vehicle to prevent her from going the wrong way and in the process was struck by the vehicle.' Williams backed up her SUV a second time and ignored the officer's commands that she was under arrest 'and accelerated toward the officer, again hitting the officer a second time, placing him in fear for his life.' Affidavits say she then left the area. Williams, who was being held on a $1,000 cash-only bond in Scott County Jail, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 3 p.m. June 10 in Scott County Court. Bettendorf man faces charges in connection with 2024 Davenport shooting
A 25-year-old Bettendorf man was in custody Saturday after Davenport Police say he was involved in a 2024 Davenport shooting that injured two people, according to Scott County Court documents. Kenneth Dwyer III faces a felony charge of intimidation with a dangerous weapon – injure/provoke feat and two felony charges of willful injury – causing bodily injury, according to Scott County Court arrest affidavits. Brady Street gunfire injures two On Sept. 14, 2024, Davenport Police say in affidavits that Dwyer drove a vehicle that followed another vehicle to the 1400 block of North Brady Street, Davenport, affidavits show. Affidavits say Dwyer drove 'in a manner to overtake the victim vehicle from the passenger side,' An occupant of the suspect vehicle 'then fired at least two rounds from a firearm into the victim vehicle, striking two of the three occupants.' In affidavits, officers say Dwyer then drove the suspect vehicle from the area. One of the victims suffered a gunshot wound to the right arm, and another victim suffered a gunshot wound to the left wrist. Affidavits say both victims required medical treatment. Dwyer's actions 'aided and abetted the shooting of the two victims,' according to arrest affidavits,. Dwyer, who was arrested on a warrant, was being held on a cash-only $25,000 bond in Scott County Jail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 30 in Scott County Court. Suspects assaulted, injured victim; then took jacket, bike: Davenport Police
An injured victim was transported to a hospital after two suspects took his bicycle and jacket, Davenport Police say in Scott County Court documents. Now 37-year-old Vincent Williams, of Davenport, faces felony charges of second-degree robbery and willful injury – causing bodily injury, according to Scott County arrest affidavits. Shortly before 3 p.m. Friday, Davenport Police officers responded to the area of Main and West 4th streets for a report of a robbery and assault, affidavits show. The victim told officers after two suspects began assaulting him, he fell to the ground and they continued to assault him, police say in affidavits. The suspects stole his bicycle and red-and-blue jacket. The victim described one of the two suspects as a man wearing a blue coat, and said that this suspect stole his jacket after assaulting him and threatening to kill him. Williams was found in the area in possession of the described jacket, and he matched the victim's description, affidavits show. He was taken into custody by officers. An eyewitness identified Williams as one of the suspects. Affidavits say the victim – who suffered a deep wound on his left eyebrow and another on his ear – was transported by ambulance to MercyOne Genesis Medical Center – East Campus. In affidavits, police say Williams committed an act against the victim, with the intent to cause serious injury while causing bodily injury. Davenport man in custody after police say he vandalized missing Bettendorf statue
A 33-year-old Davenport man was in custody Saturday in connection with vandalism of a Bettendorf statue that went missing earlier this year. Romeo Radcliff faces felony charges of second-degree criminal mischief and second-degree theft, according to Scott County Court arrest affidavits. 'Skipper,' by Quad City artist Ted McElhiney, depicted a boy skipping rocks on the Mississippi River in Leach Park, Bettendorf. The statue was stolen from Leach Park between Jan. 8 and Jan, 9, 2025, police say. Officers say in affidavits that Radcliff is seen earlier this year on camera scraping parts of the bronze statue. Radcliff admitted to scraping the statute but denied stealing it or knowing that the parts were stolen, police say in affidavits. Radcliff 'scraped the head, hands and one foot from the statue,' affidavits show. The total value of the stolen statue is between $4,000-$5,000. Scott County Court documents say pretrial release was revoked for Radcliff, who was arrested on a warrant and was being held Saturday in Scott County Jail on a $5,000 secured bond and a $10,000 cash-only bond.
