David Gray and Nectar Triantis shortlisted for football writers awards
Gray has been shortlisted for the William Hill Manager of the Year Award, alongside Celtic's Brendan Rodgers, Aberdeen's Jimmy Thelin and Falkirk's John McGlynn. Gray has been nominated for a remarkable 2024/25 campaign which saw his side equal the club's longest post-war unbeaten run in the Scottish top-flight of 17 games. The Hibs head coach also picked up three Scottish Premiership Manager of the Month awards, with the team currently leading the race for third place with three games to go. In addition, Nectar Triantis has been nominated for the SFWA Player of the Year. Triantis has been a standout performer in the middle of the park for Hibs – making 33 appearances so far this season. Gray endured a tough start to his first season as a permanent head coach but has turned things around to put the club in control for finishing third in this year's Premiership. He has equalled Hibs' longest post-war unbeaten run in the top flight and has picked up three separate Scottish Premiership Manager of the Month awards. Scott is nominated with Hibs Women in contention to win the SWPL title in remarkable fashion, fighting off challenges from the likes of Celtic, Rangers and Glasgow City currently. Hibs pair nominated for Manager of the Year His side have been in magnificent form throughout the term and are two points ahead of second-placed Rangers. He has been nominated for the SWPL award alongside Rangers Women's Head Coach Jo Potter, Glasgow City Head Coach Leanne Ross, and Motherwell Women Head Coach Paul Brownlie. The winners will be unveiled at the PFA Scotland Awards dinner at the Hilton Hotel, Glasgow, on May 4th after nominations made by the gaffers. Billy Brown, the Chairman of the Managers and Coaches Association, said: 'I'd like to congratulate all the nominees – they're all extremely worthy candidates and I'm delighted to see them achieve such success this year. All three SPFL managers deserve great credit for the jobs they've done, and it's fantastic to see two former winners nominated again in Brendan and John alongside someone beginning to make his way in management in David. 'The consistency that Brendan has produced at Celtic is impressive, and their European form was particularly excellent earlier in the season. Having known John for so many years, firstly as a coach at Musselburgh Windsor before Jim Jefferies and I took him to Hearts, it's fantastic that he just keeps producing the goods at Falkirk. I'm particularly pleased for David Gray, after he had such a difficult start to the season with Hibs. He has shown great patience and resilience to improve the team's form and results and deserves a lot of credit. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'Last year we were pleased to see SWPL managers and coaches nominated for the first time, underlining the continuing growth and success of women's football in Scotland. The fact that there's four nominated this year shows how competitive it's become at the top. Grant Scott continues to prove how good a coach he is, his knowledge of Scottish women's football is second to none, and it would be fitting if he could cap a great year's work with Hibs lifting the title. 'Jo thoroughly deserved to win the award a year ago; this season she's just built on that work, and for Rangers to be in with a chance of a treble is very impressive. I'm delighted for Leanne to be nominated – she seems to have transitioned smoothly into coaching and management after a terrific playing career, and Glasgow City have had an excellent season, so she certainly deserves to be in the mix. 'It's the same for Paul Brownlie, who has achieved a great deal at Motherwell on more limited resources, and to get them into the top six is a testament to his good work. I wish all the nominees the best of luck, and they are all deserving of praise and recognition'.

New targets for Hibs revealed as gaffer makes 'top end' vow after contract extension

Learn More Sorry, there seem to be some issues. Please try again later. Submitting... Hibs boss David Gray has set himself ambitious targets after signing a new three-year deal just weeks from the end of his first tumultuous campaign in football management. Gray and his entire backroom staff have been rewarded with extended contracts after climbing from the very bottom of the table to within touching distance of a third-placed finish in the Scottish Premiership. The first-year head coach, looking to extend his team's unbeaten league run to a whopping 18 games as they travel to Pittodrie tomorrow afternoon, knows that he can't afford to take his eye off the immediate challenge – fending off fellow contenders Aberdeen and Dundee United in the first two rounds of post-split action. But, with a number of key players also committing themselves to Easter Road for the long term , he's clearly intent on building something lasting. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Asked where he saw Hibs going in the next two or three years, Gray laughed as he insisted: 'That's far too far for me! I'm thinking about nothing but Aberdeen at the weekend. Once we get past that one, I'll move on to Dundee United. But I think you always look at what I've always believed this football club can be. 'It always needs to challenge at the top end of the table. European football, all the things that come with it because of the size of the club. The finances that go with it and the support that's been put into it. 'The stadium, the infrastructure, the training ground. Everything moving in the right direction. As I've said since I joined the club, it's such a big club. 'The football side was the element that needed to be more consistent and that's my job - to try and deliver that consistency. I knew that would be a challenge to myself and my staff to keep improving the players, to make sure this team keeps improving all the time - because it's going to be difficult. We've seen how difficult it is this season already. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'I don't expect it to get any easier moving forward. Everyone's in the same position and it's such a competitive league.' Hibs players 'never once stopped running' for under-fire boss Gray, who went from having his future in doubt as recently as November to winning a hat-trick of Scottish Premiership Manager of the Month awards in quick succession, said of the new contract: 'That's obviously brilliant to get that recognition. I think, as I've already said, it doesn't happen by accident. It comes from sticking to your beliefs and being true to yourself and sticking together during that difficult time. 'I think, as a group of players, my staff, myself, especially myself, I learnt a lot about myself earlier in the season this year. First year in management, everything that comes with that, the challenges that come with that. 'There's still loads of improvement and learning to be done from my point of view, of course. Learning all the time, trying to improve all the time. I'm delighted with where we are at this moment in time. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'When the club come forward and look to try and think about the future, it's always nice to get that. But, as I say, I'm very grateful and respectful to all the hard work from every single person in this building who's managed to move the club forward. That's the most important thing, that we deliver on the pitch. If we can all deliver on the pitch, then the club can move forward - and that's our job.' Asked if he'd always been confident, during a nightmare start, that he'd be kept in situ by the Hibs board, a grinning Gray said: 'I'd love to say aye, of course I knew it was always going to happen … never in doubt! No, it just shows you how this game works. 'You know that when you sign up to take on this job - or any job in football - that it's all results driven. At the start of the season I was very, very clear in knowing that we were underachieving. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'But I always believed in the group. I never felt once that they stopped running for me, I never felt once that they weren't desperate to turn it round.'

Hibs have handed David Gray a new three-year contract as the rookie manager reaps the rewards of a remarkable comeback campaign. And the gaffer's entire coaching staff - Eddie May, Liam Craig and Craig Samson - have also extended their Easter Road stays. A thrilled Gray, who toughed out a dismal start to his first year as head coach to put together a stunning 17-game unbeaten run in the Scottish Premiership, declared: 'This is a football club that means a lot to me, my family, and my staff, and we're delighted to have signed new deals. I've been very open about the support we've received from the board and it means a lot to be backed by the Gordon family, and (sporting director) Malky Mackay. The players and the staff have worked tirelessly to get us in the position we're in heading into the split. Gaffer and players 'can't thank supporters enough' for backing 'As a collective group, we want to continue making the supporters proud. They have been with us every step of the way this season, and we can't thank them enough for that. 'The aim for us to build on our performances and to pick up as many points as possible. We're excited about the future here at Hibs.' Gray, who has won three Scottish Premiership Manager of the Month awards - the first Hibs boss EVER to win three in the same season - during a remarkable comeback from a calamitous start, has transformed Hibs from relegation candidates to European contenders. Currently sitting third ahead of tomorrow's clash with Aberdeen at Pittodrie, they are favourites to finish Best of the Rest behind Scottish football's big two - a prize that could guarantee Europa Conference League group stage football next season. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Sporting director Mackay hailed the job done by Gray, saying: 'I am delighted that David, and his staff have extended their commitment to our club, and they thoroughly deserve their new contracts. David is a terrific ambassador and leader for our team and this club and his staff have worked tirelessly to help Hibs succeed. 'Over the course of the season, it's been evident to everyone how David has adapted, evolved, and improved a number of our players, which has allowed us to make great strides on the pitch. He is someone that fully understands the fabric of this football club and has a deep desire to be successful here. Tying down someone of David's calibre was an important step for us, and we look forward to what the future holds.'
