What's the best way to remove soot stains from painted white brick?
Q: We painted our brick fireplace white. But after some use, smoke has stained the brick. What's the best way to clean it? A: Soot is mostly carbon particles, but it often has a greasy nature that makes it difficult to remove. If you search online, you'll find numerous solutions, including vinegar, dish soap, TSP (trisodium phosphate), Scrubbing Bubbles, and the Smoke Soot Eraser Sponge and similar products.

30 Walmart Cleaning Items That Work Fast And Work Well
A bottle of The Pink Stuff's Miracle multipurpose cleaner because if you're familiar with The Pink Stuff's cleaning paste, then you KNOW how great this brand's stuff is at making your house sparkle. (And doin' it fast.) Promising review: "If I could give this stuff 10 stars, I would. Hands-down, The Pink Stuff is the best cleaner ever. I started getting it before it came to the US, and was so excited to see Walmart carrying it. I got rid of all my other cleaners except this stuff, and it's awesome. Every last one of these cleaners is great. If you get the brush, they have to go with the cleaner; you won't ever have to scrub anything again. If you haven't tried it, you don't know what you're missing." —ZuraGailPrice: $4.86 A Scrubbing Bubbles toilet cleaning stamp I've used for literal years because I like my cleaning efforts to last until the next hyper-fixation cleaning phase. These things seriously ~stick around~ and help keep your bowl clean for so long. Clean once, stamp once, and forget about it for a good month or so. (Sometimes I'm wild and stamp twice because it's fun, OK?) Promising reviews: "These work!! Toilet stays cleaner longer. When the gel disappears, I do a quick scrub and press on a new gel stamp. Easy! Years ago, I used the type of product you hang or drop into the tank. Those softened the rubber flapper, causing water loss. These go into the toilet bowl instead of the tank, so there isn't any damage to the flapper seal." —sewcountry"I love that I can put one pod at the water line, and that's it for one week. It keeps my bowl clean and smelling fresh for a week and saves me the extra work of cleaning the bowl several times during the week." —PhillipPrice: $13.87 A Scotch-Brite shower and tub scrubber with an extendable handle if the biggest barrier to finally giving your tub a good rub-a-dub-dub is those pesky corners and hard-to-reach spots. The head of the scrubber can get into corners well, and it rinses out well. I like that I can tie a microfiber cloth to it to pick up the soap and dirt. Great to work with." —LizPrice: $10.25 A compact Yamazaki Home bathroom organizer to stash your toilet paper, brush, and any other miscellany you'd rather keep out of sight and mind. This kit includes cleaning cream, a scrubbing pad, and a scraper, so you've got everything you need to wipe this task off your to-do list. Promising review: "I was mad about having to get the whole kit when all I wanted was the scrubber, but I love the scrubber as much as I thought I would and will buy refills of the red scrubber pads for the handle. I had previously used a 4-inch glass scraper, which got almost everything, and this scrubber got the rest really fast and easy." —JenniferPrice: $7.36 A bleach-free, no-scrub weekly shower spray so you can kiss mildew and that weird stain beneath your shampoo bottles goodbye with a spray-it-and-leave-it ease that will have you wishing you could spray your whole house with this stuff. Promising review: "Dawn Platinum Powerwash is a total game-changer in the kitchen. I wasn't sure what to expect from a spray-on dish soap, but now I can't imagine going back to regular liquid soap. The spray nozzle gives perfect coverage, and it instantly starts cutting through grease and stuck-on food — no soaking required. It's incredibly convenient for quick cleanups and works great on everything from pots and pans to delicate glassware. I love that you just spray, wipe, and rinse. Highly recommend for anyone who's tired of scrubbing or just wants to save time in the kitchen!" —TedPrice: $4.94 An O-Cedar spin mop and bucket I can personally attest has made mopping 99% less terrible. My least fave part was wringing out the mop head because even with the "easy wring" ones, I STILL HAD TO TOUCH THE GROSS ICK WATER. No more with this thing. It's easily the best cleaning money I spent last year. Promising review: "This mop is incredible for floors and walls, I love the clean water option, and the mop head is very easy to throw in the washing machine. I had a little bit of an issue with the handle staying 'locked' open, but I redid the locks, and it works great now! Anna Faris teases joining Real Housewives cast nearly seven years after Chris Pratt divorce
Anna Faris has considered joining the Real Housewives franchise. The 48-year-old actress - who was previously married to Chris Pratt - revealed that she would 'take the call' if Bravo boss Andy Cohen approached her to join the highly-popular reality franchise. Anna told Us Weekly recently: 'I was thinking the other day if I would make a good Real Housewife. 'I think I'm way too boring. I don't know if I'm too nice. I really think I would wear everything on my sleeve. I think I would blurt out all the time … I don't know if I would put on the whole pretense of 'there's no cameras.' I don't know. I don't know.' As she has acted professionally for nearly 30 years, she questioned if she could actually be herself in front of the camera for the sake of reality television drama. She explained: 'I feel like, fundamentally, I can be pretty quiet and reserved in my own skin. 'But it would be really fun to play a character on a reality show.' But if push comes to shove, she revealed to the weekly that she 'would totally take the phone call' from Cohen if ever asked to join the show and especially if it was for The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills. However, she questioned her ability to hang on-screen with the likes of Kyle Richards, Dorit Kemsley, Denise Richards, and Erika Girardi as she said: 'But they're so advanced. 'That's like going to graduate school when you're a freshman.' This comes just a month after Anna made some rare comments about the 12-year-old son, Jack, whom she shares with ex Pratt. 'He's handled the situation with the fires well,' the Mom alum told Us Weekly last month regarding how her child handled losing their home during the LA fires earlier this year. 'I really appreciate that,' added the star. While speaking during the push to promote her partnership with the bathroom cleaner Scrubbing Bubbles, the actress went on to reveal that she feels 'so lucky' to have Jack at her side. The 48-year-old actress revealed that she would 'take the call' if Bravo boss Andy Cohen (pictured in New York back in December) approached her to join the highly-popular reality franchise Anna (pictured February 2023) told Us Weekly recently: 'I was thinking the other day if I would make a good Real Housewife. I think I'm way too boring. I don't know if I'm too nice. I really think I would wear everything on my sleeve. I think I would blurt out all the time … I don't know if I would put on the whole pretense of 'there's no cameras.' I don't know. I don't know' 'He's always had such a solid anchor,' she said in another interview with People. 'I don't know where, being a kid in Hollywood, he got that.' She added, 'I don't know how he got so down-to-earth, but I'm really grateful.' Faris and Pratt, 45, separated in 2017 and eventually finalized their divorce the following year after being married since 2009. Despite ending their romantic relationship the former couple have tried to remain close as co-parents for the benefit of their son, who they welcomed in August 2012. They have both moved on and have gotten married again: Faris tied-the-knot with cinematographer Michael Barrett in 2021, while Pratt wed Katherine Schwarzenegger in 2019, and have since welcomed three children of their own. But, just some two months ago, their blended family lives turned tense and scary when they were forced to evacuate their homes in their respective Pacific Palisades neighborhoods in Los Angeles as the deadly fire tore through the area in January. In the end, Pratt's home with Schwarzenegger was spared, however, Faris' house was left in a pile of rubble. In fact, the Scary Movie star's residence turned out to be one of 18,000 homes and structures that burned in the L.A. wildfires, which mainly comprised of the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire. 'He's always had such a solid anchor,' The Mom alum told People about son Jack, now 12, 'I don't know where, being a kid in Hollywood, he got that'; Jack is pictured with Pratt in 2023 On top of the loss of the home she shares with her son, Jack's school was also destroyed, Pratt reported an Instagram video at the time. 'It's surreal and has been tough, [but] we feel fortunate because we're safe,' Faris explained to Us, before adding, 'I'm really grateful to be working.' In addition to the cleaning campaign with Scrubbing Bubbles, Faris has also been able to focus on her work shooting the upcoming comedy film Spa Weekend, alongside co-stars Leslie Mann, Isla Fisher, and Michelle Buteau. Her other new roles include a voice spot in the animated comedy film Toy Story 5, starring Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, and the live-action animated film I, Object that features Karl Urban, Jemaine Clement, and Skywalker Hughes. Faris, a Baltimore, Maryland native, had her breakout role when she starred in the horror-comedy parody film Scary Movie (2000). She went on to appear in the next three sequels in the film franchise through 2006. Her other notable roles include The Hot Chick (2002, Lost In Translation (2003), Brokeback Mountain (2005), Just Friends (2005, My Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006), Smiley Face (2007), The House Bunny (2008), What's Your Number? (2011), The Dictator (2012), and Overboard (2018), along with her eight season run in the hit CBS sitcom Mom (2013-2021).

Let this heated ice cream scoop and this "spray and go" stain remover take the wheel. 1. A no-scrub weekly shower cleaner you can quite literally "set and forget" to maintain its cleanliness over time — once you apply it after a shower, you just have to wait eight to 12 hours and it'll quietly tackle the soap scum, grime, oils, mold, and mildew stains without any elbow grease from you. Promising review:"I saw this product on TikTok and decided to try it out for myself. The name doesn't lie — spray it on, shut the bathroom door, and in a few hours, the shower is 100 times cleaner. Usually I'll let it sit overnight, and by morning, the visible grime on the shower is gone, including soap scum. I'll usually let the shower water rinse the residue out, and then will take a bucket just to get everything off the shower walls. It is a bit slick if you try to get in the shower without rinsing the residue, but otherwise it's a worthy cleaning staple in my house." — Tara D. Get it from Amazon for $19.98+ (available in two scents and two sizes). 2. And a Scrubbing Bubbles toilet cleaning stamp because honestly? Having to remind yourself to clean the toilet every few days is a scam. Give your brain a vacation and let this do the job for you. (And prevent grime buildup and toilet rings while it's at it!) Promising review: " I was sooo skeptical and confused about how they'd work, but the gel solidifies, and with every flush, suds wash through with the water, and it really makes a fresh difference. Also, the scent is light but really nice and fresh! I recommend these 100%! They're super interesting, but they do the job." — Janet Get it from Amazon for $4.67. 3. A portable mug warmer with three different temperature settings so you can take your sweet, sweeeeet time enjoying your morning cuppa without worrying about having to get up and reheat it a zillion times. Bonus: it also operates as a candle warmer! Promising review:"I have to say that this has changed my day-to-day life. I'm a person who works from home. My mornings are very busy, and my coffee would always get cold before I could drink it because I was busy with some task, which meant that I would have to heat it up again or just throw it away. Having this mug warmer on my desk while I work has made my mornings great again! I'm super happy I can take my coffee in peace, and it will always be warm." — Samantha Quijada Get it from Amazon for $19.19+ (available in four colors, including piiiink). 4. A super effective and strangely whimsical foaming drain cleaner to save you from having to excavate it yourself. This gentle but powerful foam pulls up gunk and cleans out drains in sinks, bathtubs, and floor drains, helping prevent plumbing issues and making everything smell ~squeaky clean~ with zero to no effort from you. Check out a TikTok of the foaming pink drain cleaner in action. Promising review: "Wow! I don't think I've ever been more excited to use a cleaning product before. Who knew you could get so much satisfaction from a drain cleaner. I could probably make an ASMR video and post it, as it is that satisfying! Even though I had to angle this over my sink drain, to avoid the low faucet, it worked perfectly. The foam went down the drain and up through the overflow, bringing lots of black, yucky gunk with it. I have used lots of drain cleaners before, but not one that actually came up through the overflow. I'd never even considered what stuff was in there. It did a great job of cleaning everything out and it left the sink smelling fresh and clean as well." — Amazon Customer Get it from Amazon for $15.98. 5. An adorable fish-shaped humidifier tank cleaner that'll ~just keep swimming, just keep swimming~ so you can stop growth of yucky sludge affecting the quality of your air for up to 30 days, sparing you a *ton* of humidifier washes. I can do French fries or any other fried food and discard the liner and the fryer is still nice and clean. I use two when I do juicy items, hot dogs, chicken breast, and sausage, and when I'm done, I take out the meat and lift out the liners and all the gross juice comes out with it leaving the fryer ready to clean in the sink with hot water, no gross juice to pour out or get in the sink. I highly recommend." — Kevin M. Harer Get a set of 125 from Amazon for $12.99 (available in different sizes and shapes for square and round air fryers). 8. Fullstar is a small business established in 2017 that specializes in kitchen gadgets. Check out a TikTok of the veggie chopper in action. Promising review:"Makes life so much easier. I can't imagine chopping onions or bell peppers by hand anymore, and it does so much more. This one requires very little effort to cut through the foo,d and it has a generous container." — Amazon Customer Get it from Amazon for $26.97+ (clip the $3 off coupon on the product page for this price; available in four styles and in four colors). 9. And a genius 2-in-1 knife and cutting board perfect for all your quick chopping needs that don't require a whole production of cutting boards. Promising review:"I always kill my plants, but I decided to try again. I just bought five houseplants, and three of them were marked down because they were looking pretty puny. Since I tend to kill them anyway, I figured I would give them a try and save some money. I put one of these spikes in each plant, and they all looked so much healthier and happier after just a couple of days. I also added one spike to the only houseplant that I've had for years without killing (I was beginning to think it was artificial); the leaves looked healthier almost immediately.
