‘Fantastic Four: First Steps' Replaced the Thing On-Set With a Rock Named Jennifer
I hope she's in the credits, at least. Marvel Studios films are known to use unconventional methods for their character stand-ins and The Fantastic Four: First Steps aims to top the methods that came before. Actor Sean Gunn acted as a stand-in for Bradley Cooper as Guardians of the Galaxy's Rocket Raccoon throughout various productions, but in a fun turn of events for the Matt Shakman-helmed feature, star Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who plays superhero Ben Grimm, got a different sort of companion to help bring the Thing to life. Pulling a lot of the weight was 'Jennifer': a rock. 'We went out to the desert and found a rock that looked exactly how we thought the Thing should look,' Shakman told Empire Magazine, 'and we filmed it in every single shot that the Thing appears in in the movie, under every lighting environment.' The practical stand-in—no insight was given into the name choice, in case you're also wondering about that—helped CG animators with the reference needed for coloring and lighting that would be required to support Moss-Bachrach's motion-capture performance. It also helped ensure the character's final form on screen wouldn't be too cartoony. Moss-Bachrach told the magazine, 'It's a little bit heady to think about all the hundreds of people that are helping animate this character. I just had faith that they would make my performance so much cooler. I'm very, very happy with the way Ben looks.' While Jennifer helped with the character's craggy appearance, the actor also did a deeper dive into Grimm's interior too. 'He's a Lower East Side guy,' the actor explained about his connection as a NY native, same as the character's creator Jack Kirby, who he kept in mind while creating his take on Ben. 'A lot of this character was a homage to his father, and that, to me, is very meaningful.' The Fantastic Four: First Steps opens in theaters July 25.

John Cena and the 11th street kids return in the Peacemaker season 2 teaser trailer
John Cena, welcome to the new DC Universe. After a three-year hiatus, Peacemaker returns to Max for its long-awaited second season. The teaser trailer follows the adventures of Christopher 'Chris' Smith (Cena), better known as the vigilante superhero Peacemaker. After saving the world, the season 2 footage begins with Peacemaker attempting to join a super team with Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn), Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced). All three are unimpressed with Peacemaker, as they insult him from the other side of an interrogation room. Nonetheless, Peacemaker will fight evil and make peace by any means necessary. Though that might be more difficult with the arrival of Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), the new leader of A.R.G.U.S. Peacemaker killed Rick Flag Jr. in The Suicide Squad, so Rick Sr. has unfinished business with the crime-fighting mercenary. Besides Cena, returning cast members include Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, Steve Agee as John Economos, and Robert Patrick as August 'Auggie' Smith/White Dragon. Grillo, David Denman, Sol Rodriguez, and Tim Meadows headline the new additions to the Peacemaker season 2 cast. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn wrote all eight episodes of season 2 and directed three. Additional directors are Greg Mottola, Peter Sollett, and Althea Jones. Gunn, Cena, and Peter Safran will executive produce. While the show started off in the DC Extended Universe, Peacemaker season 2 will live in the DCU. Gunn previously stated that the show will address the arrival of the DCEU's Justice League from the season 1 finale. The end of the teaser features a scene with two Peacemakers. One of them is holding a gun to the other's head. Many fans are speculating that this moment could be a showdown between DCEU Peacemaker and DCU Peacemaker. Peacemaker season 2 will consist of eight episodes, with the first arriving on Thursday, August 21, on Max.

Sean Gunn Teases His Mystery Superman Role
John Wick spinoff Caine will feature another familiar returning face. Eric Kripke teases The Boys' long-awaited Supernatural reunion. Plus, get a very tiny look at next week's Doctor Who. Spoilers, away! Superman In response to a fan at Northern Fancon (via Screen Rant), Sean Gunn confirmed he's 'kinda' in Superman, and may-or-may-not be playing Maxwell Lord, as previously rumored. I can't believe Pedro Pascal and I keep going after the same roles! [laughs] I can't answer most of those questions, I asked my brother [James Gunn] recently if I can even say that I'm in the movie & he was like 'you can say you're kinda in the movie'. So I'm kinda in the new Superman. I have really enjoyed the process of exploring the character – there is source material that my brother and I discussed, but I kind of can't talk about any of that. I can say that whole world where Pedro Pascal played the character beautifully is very, very different from the world we are operating in. I think just the casting alone makes that obvious – I joke, because you are not going to look at me in general for those same type of roles [as Pedro Pascal,] he is amazing. I'll be able to talk so much more freely about this after the movie comes out, but in the meantime, I can say that I loved the process of working on it. [From] what I have seen from the movie, which is not all of it, I'm very excited for an audience to see it. I have very high hopes as to how the audience will respond to it. Caine According to Variety, Rina Sawayama will indeed reprise her role as Akira in the John Wick spinoff movie, Caine. The Toxic Avenger Bloody-Disgusting reports The Toxic Avenger will indeed be released in theaters unrated this August 29 and contains 'ultra violent/toxic content, piss play, mutant nudity, hilarious harm and gnarly theater fun.' The Sound Bloody-Disgusting also has word the supernatural rock climbing movie, The Sound, will release both theatrically and on VOD this June 27. Starring Marc Hills, Rachel Finninger, Nicholas Baroudi, Jocelyn Hudon, William Fichtner, Christina Kirkman, Jolene Kay, David Clennon and real-life rock climbers Hazel Findlay, Brette Harrington, Adrian Ballinger, and Alex Honnold, the story concerns 'a world-class group of climbers granted access to the Forbidden Wall, a mysterious rock wall previously closed for decades. During the group's ascent, they come face to face with a malevolent force that quickly turns their expedition into a harrowing battle for survival hundreds of feet above the ground.' Eyes of the Abyss A soldier in the South Atlantic finds herself aboard a haunted warship in the trailer for Eyes of the Abyss, an Argentinian horror-thriller coming to the Cannes Market later this month. The Boys In conversation with TV Insider, Eric Kripke confirmed the final season of The Boys will indeed contain an on-screen Supernatural reunion between Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins. It's a blast. We already shot it. I will confirm that Jared, Jensen, and Misha are all in the same frame together, and in the same storyline, and interacting with each other. Having the five of us back together on set [Supernatural director Phil Sgriccia and Kripke, himself], filming, was just so fun and like a high school reunion, and you immediately fall into all your old patterns. It was really heartwarming and nice to like immediately be brought back to these guys that I love and haven't had them all together, at least in a professional capacity, in years and years. So it was really, really meaningful. Doctor Who Finally, The Doctor visits Nigeria in a brief clip from this week's episode of Doctor Who.
