Sisters create plant shop to honor brother, grow hope and healing

CREST HILL, Ill. — Along a busy road in Crest Hill, sits a little plant shop named called Rejuvenate. It isn't just a store, it's a living tribute. The name was chosen with care, a blend of healing and memory. 'On February 9, 2020 I lost my brother to mental illness,' Ashley Searing said. 'He was 25-years-old, 10 days shy of his 26th birthday. … It really wasn't until Nate passed that opened my eyes. … How we lost someone we had no clue was struggling.' More from Erin: Suburban man brings history back to life with 75-foot WWII aircraft In those dark moments, Searing found solace in the small grounding act of planting in pots she painted with colors Nate would haveloved. And that's when the idea for Rejuvenate bloomed. 'Taking care of that plant and giving it what it needs, I hope it reminds you to also give yourself what you need,' Searing said. More News, Weather and Headlines at The shop is a safe place to express feelings through a paintbrush and words. 'A community, somewhere they can go and find each other, help each other and talk to each other,' Hailey Searing said. Both words of encouragement and Nate's presence are tucked among fiddle leaf figs, succulents and trailing ivy. And it's not just for the customers, but the family has found their own healing by growing awareness. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
