East Wichita house fire leaves one dead, another critically injured
One person died and another was critically injured Sunday in a house fire in east Wichita. Authorities were called at 9:53 a.m. to a house fire in the 600 block of N. Belmont, near Central and Oliver, a Sedgwick County Emergency Communications supervisor said. Wichita Fire Department crews arrived and were able to extinguish the fire, and the injured person was taken to a local hospital. More details were not immediately available. The Wichita Police Department and Sedgwick County EMS also responded to the scene. The Wichita Fire Department is expected to release more details on Monday.

Man dies after being stabbed in downtown Wichita, suspect on the loose
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A 55-year-old man who was cut during an altercation in downtown Wichita over the noon hour has died. Several people called 911 to report that someone had been stabbed near 3rd and Broadway. The first police officer to arrive found the victim critically injured. The officer began first aid and then transferred care to Sedgwick County EMS. The victim died a short time later at the hospital. First measles case reported in Sedgwick County The Wichita Police Department is looking for the person responsible and only has a vague description of him. 'We believe there was an altercation that escalated to the stabbing,' Captain Aaron Moses, WPD, said. 'We'll continue to investigate that and determine exactly how long that altercation lasted, whether it occurred at multiple locations, or anything like that. (KSN News Photo) Police would like to talk to any witnesses. 'It is a high traffic area, and we do have some people that stayed around to provide us some information,' Moses said. 'It's always possible that there were other witnesses to this incident, maybe witnesses that saw something that they didn't realize was a part of this incident, but looking back, think it may be. If that's the case, we would ask that you call us and provide that information. We can always determine whether it's related to the incident.' He said witnesses should call 911 or detectives at 316-268-4407. If they want to remain anonymous, they should call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111. For more Kansas news, click here.
