Funky little Arizona town is hailed the 'new Roswell' after strange UFO sightings

An Arizona town with fewer than 10,000 residents is being dubbed the new Roswell after becoming one of the top spots in the US for UFO sightings. The desert town of Sedona, which is located approximately 180 miles outside of Phoenix, sits in both Coconino and Yavapai Counties, which had a combined 484 UFO sightings between 2000 and 2023, according to an Axios report. These numbers put the area well above the national average of 34 people per 100,000. Psychic and UFO tour guide John Polk, 56, told that he sees extraterrestrial activity nightly from his home in Sedona, where he's lived for the last eight years. The native Floridian told 'There's tons of activity. It's easy to see it.' He believes Sedona is such a high-traffic area for UFOs due to the vortexes the city is known for. Sedona is also a very spiritual place and is known as the 'door to the world' due to vortexes that are believed to open portals to other dimensions and provide healing energy. Polk said Sedona has quartz along the ley lines - invisible gridlines that often fall into triangles that are believed to carry powerful energy - that help build electromagnetic energy that creates electricity, and ultimately, a pathway for ETs. 'I believe that's what's happening in Sedona,' Polk told 'They're traveling over the gridlines. 'The better the energy, the more you'll see.' The Daytona Beach native also noticed a lot of UFOs seem to appear and then suddenly disappear in thin air and he believes that's due to the mythical ley lines and that aliens are using them to slip between dimensions. He explained it like turning stations on a radio, which is done by change frequency and vibrations. 'I think that's what they can do,' he said. 'Everything is about vibrations and frequency.' Polk regularly leads tour groups of 20 to 50 people and prepares for a tour by meditating to bring the best results. He says that UFOs 'seem to follow' him. 'You'd see stuff whether I was here or not. But when I am there, you see a lot more because I know how to work the energy out there,' he said. For Polk, who moved to the city to live with his aunt who had breast cancer, he's always believed in UFOs and had his first encounter when he was around 15 or 16. While in his bed in Florida, he saw something that looked like the moon but was moving over the ocean. After blacking out, he claims he awoke to find three four-foot creatures standing on his balcony peering into the glass. They eventually came into his room before he blacked out again. 'I totally believed in them my whole life,' Polk said. His mother, who is also a psychic, believed in aliens too and he says she worked adjacently to the FBI for many years. She was privy to confidential information and a lot of what she told him growing up then came true, he claimed. His father, a university president, was always a skeptic, but that hasn't stopped Polk from inviting ETs in with 'love, light and consciousness'. Sedona has been likened to Roswell, New Mexico, which has the most famous potential alien spotting area in the US. An extraterrestrial spacecraft allegedly crashed there in July 1947 and many conspiracy theorists believe aliens were captured by the government and the military attempted to cover up the incident. The area is a hotspot for UFO sightings, with 92 residents per 100,000 spotting one between 2000 and 2023, according to Axios. There have also been claims that Sedona has an 'alien base' hidden just outside the town in a desolate area, The Daily Express reported. 'There's a base there where the crafts are, there's a number of them high in the mountains in remote areas of the planet and they're here now and they're extraordinarily distressed about the state of affairs [of humanity],' lawyer Danny Sheehan, who has worked on UFO whistleblowers cases, told The Express. He claimed 'huge, seven feet tall, extraordinarily skinny, thin, kind of bowed over and reminding people of a praying mantis' people live inside the base. The paranormal was not associated with Sedona until the 1970s when psychic Paige Bryant visited the town and declared certain places were vortexes. 'She was not drawing from anything other than what she said she intuited from the land and she described these as places that had a spiritual or mystical type of energy emanating from specific spots in around Sedona,' McGivney told radio show KJZZ. 'And, you know, coincidentally, she was not like a wilderness backpacker. So all the vortexes are conveniently one mile from the road.' She was not the first person to feel the special power of Sedona, but she was the first to name the experience. Before her the psychic researcher Dick Sutphen brought groups of people to the town for spiritual retreats to help them experience the psychic energy emitting from the place. Dennis Andres and his mother visited the city when he was moving to studying at the Thunderbird School of Global Management, he told Arizona State University. When they came across a rock formation in Bell Rock, he found himself getting out of the car to climb and as he went higher, he felt better. 'We asked people if something was happening in Sedona. And they would always respond it is the vortex,' he told the university. 'Sedona is a place of spiritual energy. We cannot measure it with mechanical devices; we can only measure it with the human body. I can explain why some people feel this energy and others do not. You do not have to believe in it, and you do not have to reject it either.'

Sedona, Arizona's Newest Hotel Has Rooms From Less Than $230 a Night—Plus Live Music at Sunset, Firepits, and a Beautiful Pool

The hotel is incredibly pet-friendly, boasting a full-acre outdoor dog park for your furry companion to run free. Guests can enjoy live music as the sun sets at the on-property restaurant lounge. The best hikes, restaurants, and outdoor activities in Sedona can be reached from the hotel within 15 minutes by car. Notable on-site programming includes crystal bowl sound baths, energy alignment workshops, mindful meditation and breath work sessions, and sunrise ceremonies based on Indigenous traditions. Mountain Modern, an adventure-driven hotel brand based in Wyoming, is setting up camp in the American Southwest. Its first outpost opened in Jackson Hole in 2017, but the brand officially expanded to Sedona, Arizona, to debut its second location this month. 'Mountain Modern is an approachable and playful brand, one that is ultimately rooted in the local experience and destination,' said Robert Nolan, co-creator of the hotel brand, told Travel + Leisure . 'Our property can be a place for travelers and locals alike to recharge, connect, and dive into everything that makes Sedona so magical.' When I checked in, I was immediately handed a map of Sedona with all of the best things to see and do in the city, according to the hotel's 'wise guides," a.k.a. team of locals with tons of insider tips. It didn't take long for me to realize that Mountain Modern is one of the few hotels in the area that actually encourages you to leave the property and explore the destination, but it still manages to deliver all the comforts to make you feel right at home when you're ready to turn in. I was the first person to check out the newly opened Mountain Modern Sedona—here's what it was like. Scenic views from inside a King guest room. Brought to life by Arizona-based architecture and design firm RSP Architects, accommodations at Mountain Modern strike the perfect balance between functional and stylish. While the design caters to the outdoor enthusiast in a practical sense—think custom gear walls with designated hooks for walking poles—subtle touches of luxury shine through in the high-end amenities from Malin+Goetz and in-room electric fireplaces. The King Suite was more than enough space for me and my travel companion, complete with separate king and queen-sized beds, a living area with a fireplace, and an outdoor patio. A sweeping mural of the red rocks shot by a local photographer hung over my bed to pay homage to the hotel's desert location. Ultra health-focused travelers might opt for one of the two wellness suites, which feature a dedicated fitness studio with a Peloton bike and high-tech exercise equipment that come with virtual training programs. Interior of the King Suite Wellness Studio. The Den serves comfort food and Southwestern classics (I was a big fan of the breakfast burrito) to nourish travelers ahead of their outdoor adventures, as well as a full-service bar to return to for a locally brewed craft beer or cocktail at the end of the day. With daily live music and an adjacent outdoor pool deck lined with fire pits, the space is designed to bring people together, reflecting the laid-back charm and welcoming energy the destination is known for. Interior of The Den. Off-property daytime eats worth checking out are some of Sedona's healthiest options. Wildcraft Kitchen is a local favorite with power bowls made of locally sourced ingredients that cater to vegetarian and gluten-free diets. Their sibling restaurant, Local Juicery, has the best cold-pressed juice bar and smoothies in town, as well as a selection of superfood-focused healthy eats. A newcomer to the Sedona restaurant scene, Broome & Orchard serves up unpretentious plates in an upscale setting with the red rocks of Sedona as its backdrop. The global menu is all over the map: with Japanese sushi rolls, Mediterranean-style lamb chops, and all-American barbecue ribs. Spending time at the outdoor pool and hot tub is the perfect way to unwind at Mountain Modern Sedona. After a day full of outdoor adventures, guests can grab a nightcap at the bar and flick on the firepit as the sun sets over the red rocks of Sedona. Aerial view of Mountain Modern Sedona with the outdoor pool. The city is widely known as one of the most spiritual destinations in the country, home to a number of vortex sites that are considered powerful sources of energy and healing. On-site programming at Mountain Modern embraces Sedona's mystical vibes with crystal bowl sound baths, mindful meditation and breath work sessions, and ceremonies inspired by Indigenous traditions. I especially loved paying a visit to the pet park at sunrise the first morning to set my intentions for the visit. Guests won't have to leave the hotel for extra outdoor gear or a bike tune-up. The on-site tuning station has everything you need to get your bike in the best shape for an epic trail ride. And if you're looking for a guided tour, nearby Sedona Mountain Biking Academy (SMBA) is the obvious choice as the No. 1 rated mountain biking experience in the Southwest. As a beginner, I was impressed by the team at SMBA, who personalized my experience to fit my skill and comfort level. That doesn't mean I wasn't challenged, though, as I worked my way on to an intermediate trail by the tail end of the three-hour session. Mountain Modern caters to all types of adventure travelers. The more spacious suites on property, complete with two bedrooms and a separate living space, can comfortably accommodate small families. Plus, being a pet-friendly hotel, Mountain Modern is ready to welcome your entire family, four-legged friends included. In-room amenities include dog beds, water bowls, and toys, while a full-acre private outdoor park is free to use for playtime with your pup. Touting itself as the 'ultimate adventure basecamp,' Mountain Modern is a perfect jumping-off point to explore everything Sedona. It's located smack-dab in the middle of the city, where guests can easily access tons of hiking and mountain biking trailheads that lead to some of the most jaw-dropping vistas in the entire country. The city's top restaurants, art galleries, and outdoor activities can also be reached from the hotel by car in less than 15 minutes. Even better, the most exclusive Jeep tour in Sedona, Pink Jeep Tours, is right down the road from the hotel. The tour granted us exclusive access to the Broken Arrow Trail, known as Sedona's most thrilling off-roading experience. We made our way down the trail, we toppled over red rock formations, making pit stops to admire the 360-degree views of Sedona's natural beauty. Sunset light over Sedona Arizona from atop Airport Mesa. Mountain Modern Sedona does not have a loyalty program, but the hotel is offering a 30-percent-off discount until the end of August 2025. Nightly rateys start from $229. Every T+L hotel review is written by an editor or reporter who has stayed at the property, and each hotel selected aligns with our core values.

Bec Judd is gifted a new $220K 'bougie luxe' Range Rover Sport as she goes car shopping in $27,000 outfit - but her fans aren't impressed

Bec Judd has nabbed a new set of wheels while donning an outfit just a few bucks shy of $27,000. The AFL WAG, 42, posted a video on Instagram on Monday that showed her popping into Land Rover Melbourne City to check out some of their newest offerings, one of which she was seen driving away in. Bec arrived at the car dealership wearing a $750 top, pants and shirt set from Sabo, a $4,380 Fendi Bag and a $21,455 Dior Christal Watch encrusted with diamonds - adding up to an eye-watering $26,585. Her hair was worn down and she opted for her signature minimal beauty look, which left her skin looking bronzed and glowy as she shopped for her next Land Rover. In the clip, Land Rover salesman Ben introduced a number of new cars to the influencer, including the new Sedona red edition Defender 110 which Bec dubbed 'on trend'. However, it was the plug-in hybrid Range Rover Sport that the store assistant 'chose' for Bec. Bec arrived at the car dealership wearing a $750 top, pants and shirt set from Sabo, a $4,380 Fendi Bag and a $21,455 Dior Christal Watch encrusted with diamonds - adding up to an eye-watering $26,585 The car, which flaunted a Santorini black exterior with bronze features, retails for $219,450. 'We saved the best til last @melbcitylandrover,' she wrote in the caption, hinting at her new car. 'But the Defenders will always have my heart, especially in those insane colours!' she added. This isn't the first time Bec has shared a sponsored post for Land Rover Melbourne City. Last year, she was slammed online as 'cringe' after she took to Instagram to reveal her new Land Rover SUV. 'After a Discovery break for a couple of years I am back in the 7 seat Defender,' she wrote alongside a photo of herself standing next to a brand new white vehicle. 'I custom built this one with the team from @melbcitylandrover and can't wait to show you more.' However not all her followers were impressed. 'Why do superficial people keep putting up things that make them superficial?' wrote one critic. 'I don't know how you can get any more cringe. Your self importance reeks out of you. Ewww,' added another. One fan, who claimed to work for a car dealership, took aim at the product Judd was promoting. 'We have a defibrillator at work when we give our customers the Trade in value of a Land Rover,' they quipped. However many congratulated the model mother for her new acquisition. 'Jealous!!! I want one badly,' wrote one, while another added, 'Just got mine, you will love it!'

Controversial TCU star Sedona Prince goes undrafted in WNBA amid abuse allegations

A controversial women's college basketball star was not drafted by a WNBA team amid allegations of abuse and sexual misconduct. Sedona Prince, who plays center at TCU, was not among the 16 prospects invited to attend Monday night's draft at The Shed – despite previously having been projected as a first-round pick. During the draft, teams passed on her in all three rounds. Prince, 24, started all 58 games this season and averaged 17.2 points per game. She also earned an honorable mention in the AP All-America honors and helped the Horned Frogs reach the Elite Eight for the first time in the school's history. It comes after The Washington Post reported in February that the 6-foot 7-inch basketball star has previously been hit with a string of abuse allegations. According to interviews and records obtained by the outlet, Prince has faced an allegation of sexual assault, multiple domestic violence claims and a lawsuit alleging sexual misconduct. The Post reports that some of the claims were made on social media in 2021, with the first allegations against Prince dating to 2019. The Independent has reached out to Prince's attorney for comment over the claims. In a statement shared with The Post, Prince's attorney A. Boone Almanza said the basketball star 'categorically denies that she has abused anyone in her life, whether mentally, emotionally or physically.' 'Unfortunately, others have decided to use Sedona as a launch point for their careers,' Almanaza added. 'In an effort to create some relationship privacy, Sedona has asked girlfriends to sign nondisclosure agreements because their personal, intimate moments should not be the subject of public discussion.' Prince has also garnered much attention from her social media posts, in which she drew attention to gender equity questions at the NCAA Tournament in 2021. Her viral video pointed out the stark inequities between how the NCAA treated men and women during its basketball tournaments. The post helped prompt an NCAA-commissioned report reviewing gender equity, which led to the use of the phrase March Madness for the women's tournament and the start of paying programs units for participating in the championship event. Prince started playing in 2019 at Oregon before graduating in May 2022 and transferring to TCU for the past two seasons. She later was a lead plaintiff in a landmark antitrust lawsuit that will help get money for college athletes.

TCU star Sedona Prince facing multiple allegations of sexual, physical abuse

This article contains depictions of alleged sexual assault. TCU star Sedona Prince has been accused of sexual abuse from numerous ex-girlfriends and partners in recent years, according to a new report from The Washington Post. Multiple women have come forward to report incidents of alleged abuse, stemming from physical, sexual and emotional abuse throughout her time both at Oregon and with the Horned Frogs, who she transferred to before the start of last season. Prince denied all of the allegations made against her through her attorney, and said that she has never 'abused anyone in her life, whether mentally, emotionally or physically. 'Unfortunately, others have decided to use Sedona as a launch point for their careers,' the attorney, A. Boone Almanza, added. 'In an effort to create some relationship privacy, Sedona has asked girlfriends to sign nondisclosure agreements because their personal, intimate moments should not be the subject of public discussion.' The first allegation dates back to 2019, when a woman said that Prince locked her in Prince's car and penetrated her with her fingers without consent while they were on a first date. The woman, Alyssa Jimmie, told The Post that Prince told her during the moment that, 'I didn't take you out for nothing.' Jimmie said she 'froze' in fear after that, and felt stuck because Prince was more than a foot taller than her. 'If I wanted to do anything [to stop her], there was no chance,' she told The Post. Jimmie has said that she has struggled 'severely' with depression and anxiety since then. She spoke out about the incident on social media years later, too, but did not name Prince. She eventually pulled the post down after Prince threatened to 'press charges.' Prince was sued a year later for sexual misconduct. An unidentified woman alleged that, during a date in 2022, Prince grabbed the woman's hand and forced her to penetrate Prince despite her 'repeatedly' turning down Prince's advances. Prince did not respond to the lawsuit, and it was dismissed several months later. A third woman said that Prince was both physically and emotionally abusive toward her. During a birthday trip to Mexico, the woman said, Prince punched her in the chest and shoved her against a wall in their hotel room. A few nights earlier, the woman said that Prince was drunk, shoved her off the back of a moving ATV and drove away. She was left injured on a road in a jungle. Prince eventually returned after several minutes, per the report, but flipped the ATV twice while driving them back. That woman, Olivia Stabile, talked about the incident on TikTok several months ago. Prince denied the allegations at the time, but admitted that 'I know that I have not been the best partner, and I take accountability for that,' per The Post. 'I always felt scared of her,' Stabile said, via The Post. 'Right when I woke up in the morning, I was scared.' Prince appeared to admit to the ATV incident in WhatsApp messages, per the report, and said she did it 'because you were yelling at me.' That was one of several incidents on the trip. Prince later threatened to sue Stabile if she spoke out. Then last month, there was another incident between Prince and an ex-girlfriend. They both reported domestic violence to police and both 'sustained minimal injury.' Neither woman was charged. The ex-girlfriend said that Prince had asked her to sign a nondisclosure agreement, which she did. 'Sedona was a victim of an assault in the early morning of Jan. 18 when a former friend entered her house uninvited,' Prince's attorney said in a statement about that incident, via The Post. 'Sedona was kicked and hit repeatedly and suffered bruises to her shins and received a black eye. Sedona did not fight back other than attempt to move her out of the way and block her blows. This has been a traumatic event for Sedona.' Prince played for the Horned Frogs four days after that last incident. In fact, according to The Post, TCU has been aware of some of the allegations against Prince since last year. 'The university is aware of the allegations involving one of our student-athletes and is looking into the matter,' a school spokesperson told The Post. The 6-foot-7 senior is a projected first round pick in the WNBA draft next season, and she is credited with helping push women's college basketball forward in recent years — including a viral post in 2021 that showed how bad the women's NCAA tournament facilities were. That led to the women's tournament finally getting 'March Madness' branding, among other things. Prince has averaged 17.6 points, nine rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game this season with No. 11 TCU. The Horned Frogs will take on Arizona next on Sunday. 'It infuriates me that she's still allowed to be on the [TCU] team, but also because people credit her for bringing awareness to women's sports and jump-starting the conversation around equality when this is the type of person she is,' Jimmie said, via The Post.
