State to distribute 80k quintals of Kharif seeds this year

Ranchi: The state agriculture department has set a target to distribute over 80,000 quintals of seeds for the Kharif season in the 2025- 26 financial year. The quantity of seeds distributed this year is double the figure of the past financial year, officials said. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Minister of agriculture, animal husbandry and co-operative department, Shilpi Neha Tirkey, officially inaugurated the distribution of seeds among the farmers at a programme organised on the occasion of Seed Day on Sunday. Speaking at the event, Tirkey reiterated her govt's commitment to fulfilling the promises made to the farmers. She emphasized that weaker states need to work harder to perform better and Jharkhand is steadily moving in that direction. "The department is providing seeds to farmers at subsidies ranging from 50% to 100%. To benefit from it, farmers need to obtain accurate information on seed sowing time and follow correct procedures. The department is collecting feedback from farmers from district to block levels so that any shortcomings can be addressed promptly. Small changes can lead to the creation of a developed Jharkhand," Tirkey added. The minister also said her department has also decided to launch a scheme to support crop irrigation in the state. Specific schemes based on the needs of the farmers of particular areas would be formulated, the minister said, emphasising that farmers should adopt technology to ensure better yields. Tarachand, the director of the department, stated that 80% of the state's population is dependent on farming and Kharif is considered the main crop. This year, five govt companies have been assigned the task of supplying seeds for simultaneous distribution, he added.
