SUV driver swerves to avoid dog, hits trailer and dies
SEGAMAT: A man died while a woman was critically injured after a sports utility vehicle (SUV) crashed into a trailer along Jalan Muar–Segamat, near Kampung Paya Jakas, yesterday.
The deceased was identified as David Sussak, 37, who was in the front passenger seat. He died at the scene.
The driver, Vanitha Periasamy, 36, was seriously wounded and is being treated at Hospital Segamat, while the trailer driver, 46, escaped unhurt in the 6.30pm accident.
Segamat police chief Superintendent Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said the SUV is believed to have crashed into the trailer after the driver swerved to avoid hitting a dog that was crossing the road.
The driver of the SUV, which was headed to Segamat from Muar, lost control of the vehicle after trying to avoid the dog.
The trailer had been parked in a bus lane.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
