Designer hopes to bring back Hull Fashion Week in 2026

A clothing designer has revealed plans to resurrect an annual fashion week in Hull to celebrate local talent more than 10 years since it last took place. The proposed event could take place in May or June 2026 if funding for the project can be Onakoya, who moved to the UK from Nigeria in 2022, is working with Hull City Council to develop the idea and secure investment. He said: "The dream is for people to eventually look at Hull Fashion Week the way they look at London Fashion Week." It would showcase the work of established designers as well as students from the University of Hull and Hull Onakoya also said it would give a platform for other creative professionals such as photographers, stylists, hairdressers and makeup said: "We want to draw national attention to Hull and the wider Yorkshire region. This is about more than fashion – it's about culture, creativity and economic growth."It will celebrate the cultural threads that run through this city, from migrants to makers, students to small businesses."The 28-year old, who teaches at Hull's Astra Youth Centre, said he hoped the week-long event could create jobs within the fashion industry and "change perceptions" of the city."Fashion can be a tool for regeneration, for representation, for change," he part of the project, Mr Onakoya said he wanted to hear from local businesses and creatives to get their added: "This is more than a sales event. It's about building a community of designers and giving fashion a new home in Hull."
