BJP politicising Operation Sindoor for electoral gain, alleges Kumari Selja; Congress MP slams BJP for silence on leaders' insulting women

Hisar: Congress general secretary and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of exploiting Operation Sindoor for political gain instead of uniting the nation in the fight against terrorism. A ddressing the media in Hisar on Friday, she praised the Army's courage but criticised the BJP-led central govt for what she described as its failure to uphold democratic values. "The Army has made the nation proud consistently with its bravery," Selja said. "But rather than recognising this nationally, the BJP is using the counter-terrorism operation after the Pahalgam attack to serve its own political agenda. " She said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had made it clear that the party stood with the govt in combating terrorism, yet the BJP refused to acknowledge bipartisan support or uphold Parliamentary decorum. Selja also condemned the governing party's silence on what she called "repeated instances of disrespect" towards women by senior BJP members. "Insulting women's dignity cannot be brushed aside. The BJP must act decisively rather than protect those responsible," she said. Turning to regional issues, Selja demanded quick action on the long-standing Satluj-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal dispute, urging Punjab to release Haryana's rightful share of water. She accused both the central and Haryana govts of inaction. "The Haryana govt is only making statements. On the ground, nothing is being done," she claimed, adding that a breakdown in coordination between the administration and the BJP govt had left citizens to "run from pillar to post" for basic services. Several senior Congress figures, including former Haryana Public Service Commission member Jagannath, ex-judicial tax tribunal member Harpal Boora, advocate Lal Bahadur Khowal, and Krishna Satrod attended the press briefing. Divided Haryana Congress hopes it is third time lucky in bid to revamp organisation

Six months after losing the Haryana Assembly elections, the Congress has launched another attempt to strengthen its grassroots organisation via a revamp of the district-level committees, in particular for its 'Samvidhan Bachao (Save the Constitution)' campaign in the state. In a state where the party has long struggled with organisational gaps going down to the block level, and where it is yet to appoint a Leader of the Opposition six months after losing the Assembly polls, this marks the third effort in just about six months to establish district-level committees. Last December, Haryana Congress president Udai Bhan had released a list of in-charges for all 22 districts in the state in preparation for the March 2 civic body elections. However, factional disputes prevented the appointments of these office-bearers. Objections to Bhan's list from then AICC Haryana in-charge Dipak Babaria had led to revisions. Babaria later released a new list of district in-charges, conveners, and committee members to manage the civic polls. But this also faced criticism from Ambala MP Varun Choudhary, for including inactive members and non-party individuals. The latest committees, formed with the approval of AICC Haryana in-charge B K Hariprasad, are seen as a trial run towards establishing a full-fledged organisation at the district level. While former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who is very close to Bhan, has raised expectations regarding these committees, the way forward is likely to be difficult given the divide between the factions led by Hooda and former Union Minister and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja. A Congress leader close to Selja said most of the chairpersons or conveners appointed for the district-level committees belong to Hooda's camp. In fact, Selja as chairperson for the Sirsa and Fatehabad districts, and Kaithal MLA Aditya Surjewala, the son of another Hooda rival, Rajdeep Surjewala, as convener for the Kaithal district are the only two exceptions to this. A Congress leader close to Selja pointed out that Jitender Kumar Bhardwaj, a working president of the Haryana Congress, has been made chairperson for the Gurgaon and Nuh districts, while two other working presidents – Ram Kishan Gurjar and Suresh Gupta – have not been assigned responsibilities for any district. Bhardwaj is known to be close to Hooda, whereas Gupta is considered close to Selja. Similarly, the leader alleged that former state minister Ajay Singh Yadav has also been overlooked. Hooda's son and sitting Lok Sabha MP Deepender Singh Hooda has been appointed chairperson for three districts – Rohtak, Jhajjar, and Rewari. Despite these concerns, Aditya Surjewala views the formation of the committees as a positive step towards strengthening the party in Haryana. 'This will energise party workers at the grassroots. It would prove to be a step toward forming the party organisation in Haryana,' the MLA said. Nearly a week ago, the Congress announced plans to hold nationwide 'Samvidhan Bachao' campaigns at various levels from April 25 to May 30. From May 20 to 30, the campaign will engage in door-to-door outreach. Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, INDIA bloc leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, had accused the BJP of 'destroying the Constitution', a plank that has provided a significant boost to the Opposition. Lal Bahadur Khowal, chairman of the Haryana Congress legal cell, emphasised the importance of this campaign, stating, 'This is an important move to save the Constitution in light of recent attacks on its soul. Under this campaign, we will hold functions to educate people on how attempts have been made to target key provisions of the Constitution.'

Haryana farmers not paid for their crops on time, alleges Kumari Selja

'The government had promised payment within 72 hours of procurement, but Rs 873 crore worth payments are still pending,' she alleged in a statement here. Chandigarh, Apr 27 (PTI) Farmers in Haryana are made to wait several weeks to receive payment for their procured crops despite the government's promise of payment within 72 hours, Congress general secretary and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja alleged on Sunday. 'Wheat heaps are rotting in the markets and the BJP government is a silent observer. There is chaos at every level — ”transportation, labour and management. Yet, the government's insensitivity persists. Under the BJP government, farmers are burdened with hollow promises and false announcements,' she claimed. Selja said all the promises made regarding wheat procurement have been left unfulfilled, even though half of the procurement period has already passed. 'There is no visible facility in the grain markets, while the government is patting its own back, claiming success,' she said. Selja said government has all the data on the 'Meri Fasal Mera Byora' portal, showing how much wheat each farmer has sown and the expected yield. 'Based on this data, the government should have made preparations accordingly,' she said, adding, 'The truth is that the BJP has never been farmer-friendly, they only pretend to be'. On Friday, Haryana Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana said the government is ensuring that the lifting of procured wheat is done promptly and that farmers receive payments directly into their bank accounts within the stipulated time. Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Congress leader and former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda alleged that the 'mandis' in Haryana are filled with crops. 'There is no place to even stand, let alone put in additional grain, but the government is still not ready to speed up the lifting,' he said. Hooda alleged that like every crop season, BJP had made big claims, and like each time, its lies were exposed this time as well. 'Farmers are worried due to the chaos in the mandis. The wheat is not being procured at the speed at which it is arriving in the mandis. Complaints are coming from farmers across the state that they are being deliberately made to wait. First the procurement and then the lifting of the crop is being delayed, so that the payment can be delayed,' Hooda alleged. 'The government had announced wheat procurement from April 1. But as usual tenders for lifting were not made on time at many places and neither were sacks given to the commission agents due to delay at government's end. Due to this, lakhs of tonnes of wheat got wet due to rain twice recently. After the wheat got wet, farmers were harassed for many days in the name of moisture content,' he said. Cong calls key meet on Haryana leadership, likely to focus on discussing potential candidates

Chandigarh: In another effort to bring together the dissenting senior Congress leaders from Haryana and reach a consensus on the new Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president and the CLP leader, a crucial meeting has been convened in New Delhi on Tuesday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The meeting will be chaired by B K Hariparsad , who will be accompanied by the co-incharge and other central leaders. Sources indicate that Haryana's senior leaders, including former Union minister and AICC general secretary, Sirsa MP Selja; Rajya Sabha MP and AICC general secretary Randeep Surjewala; and former Union minister Birender Singh, are among those invited. Also attending will be former chief minister , Congress MLAs, HPCC chief Udai Bhan, former PCC presidents, the remaining four Lok Sabha MPs, and former MLAs, MPs, and working presidents of Haryana Congress. The meeting will primarily focus on discussing potential candidates for the CLP and HPCC chief positions. Hariparsad stated that the leaders have been called to review programmes and guidelines for statewide protests against the ED cases involving Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, as well as the amendment to the Waqf Act. When asked about the AICC's decision on the CLP and HPCC chief, Hariparsad replied, "We will let you know once it is finalised." For the past seven months, despite being the strongest opposition in Haryana with 37 MLAs, the Congress has been unable to appoint a CLP leader. During one-on-one meetings, over 29 MLAs expressed support for Hooda as their choice, but they have left the final decision to the AICC. However, Hooda faces strong opposition from Selja, Birender, and Surjewala, and the issue remains unresolved. Additionally, Haryana Congress has lacked organisational structure for over a decade, contesting the last two Lok Sabha and assembly elections without a solid infrastructure. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The AICC high command is considering a strategy to strike a balance by appointing leaders from two different factions, taking into account the caste combination of Jat and Dalit, or opting for a non-Jat face for one of the positions. After Hooda, potential candidates for the CLP or HPCC leadership include Ashok Arora, Geeta Bhukkal, and Dr Raghubir Kadian. Additionally, Selja, Surjewala, or Birender, along with their respective recommendations, are being considered for the HPCC chief position. MSID:: 120488752 413 |

National Herald case: Kumari Selja slams BJP, says Congress will hold protests from April 25

Congress general secretary and Lok Sabha MP Kumari Selja on Monday called the action in the National Herald case a BJP conspiracy to divert people's attention from burning issues and announced that her party would hold rallies across the country from April 25 in this regard. The Enforcement Directorate recently filed a chargesheet against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case accusing them of laundering Rs 988 crore. "It is a BJP conspiracy. It is political revenge. Under our 'Save Constitution' campaign underway since last year, we are going to hold rallies nationwide from April 25 to 30. It will be held at district level between May 3 and 10, at the assembly constituency level from May 11 to 17," Selja told reporters. "As part of the campaign, we will launch a door-to-door public contact programme from May 20 to 30 to dispel the BJP's misinformation drive, which is to distract people's attention from the real issues like unemployment, falling GDP and social unrest," said Selja, one of the Congress' senior Dalit leaders. She asserted that there was no money laundering angle to the National Herald case and said it would not stand in court. 5 5 Next Stay Playback speed 1x Normal Back 0.25x 0.5x 1x Normal 1.5x 2x 5 5 / Skip Ads by by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like People In Delhi Say Goodbye To Mosquitoes With This Revolutionary Solution Mosquito Eliminator Read More Undo Slamming the ED, she asked why the probe agency had "not touched an NDA ally or a BJP leader so far". "The BJP government has made ED its election department and was misusing it again and again to take revenge. The conviction rate in ED cases is 1 per cent. Moreover, out of political cases, it has lodged 98 per cent cases against political rivals," the MP from Haryana's Sirsa alleged., she said.
