Entrepreneurship Accelerates Nationally in March With 7% Rise in New Business Starts

More than half a million business formations recorded across the U.S. as entrepreneurs push forward despite uncertainty SHERIDAN, Wyo., May 13, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Registered Agents, Inc has released its March Business Formation Report, a monthly resource providing detailed insights into national and state-level business formation trends. The latest report shows a significant increase in new business starts, with 507,222 new formations recorded in March — a 7% increase over February and a 5% rise year over year. This surge marks one of the strongest single-month gains in recent years and underscores a growing national trend: entrepreneurs are launching new ventures across a wide range of industries and regions, regardless of continued economic and policy uncertainty. Business formations were up in 45 states, spanning urban centers, rural communities and mid-sized markets. The Q1 2025 total reached 1.38 million, reflecting a 3.3% increase over Q1 2024. "This quarter's data shows that we're not just seeing one-off momentum, we're seeing a nationwide trend take hold," said Jon Garrison, Treasurer at Registered Agents, Inc. "Business formation is rising in virtually every region, and the numbers from March suggest that many Americans are done waiting for perfect conditions. They're building now, whether that's in major metros or smaller markets with policy tailwinds." State-level insights from the March report include: Colorado: Business starts increased 48% from February and 13% compared to March 2024. Minnesota: Up 49% from the previous month and 21% year over year. Oklahoma: Formations rose 31% month over month and 41% year over year. Delaware: Posted a 12% monthly increase and 15% year-over-year growth following the passage of Senate Bill 21, which updated the General Corporation Law. Florida: Registered more than 61,000 new businesses, up 16% month over month and 10% year over year. Texas: Despite a modest monthly dip, business starts were still 12% higher than March 2024. Washington: Saw a 32% monthly decline after a strong February, but remained 10% above March 2024 levels. "These aren't isolated hotspots or geographic anomalies," Garrison added. "What we're seeing is an increasingly distributed and durable resurgence in entrepreneurship, the kind that builds long-term economic resilience across sectors and states." The full March 2025 Business Formation Report, including interactive state-level comparisons, historical trend data and detailed national insights, is now available. Trump Media moves incorporation to Florida

Trump Media and Technology Group, Truth Social's parent company, announced Thursday that it has moved its incorporation to Florida, becoming the latest firm to leave the popular corporate home of Delaware. The move was approved by Trump Media's shareholders at its annual meeting Wednesday, according to a press release. 'We're thrilled to reincorporate our Company in Florida,' Trump Media CEO and chairman Devin Nunes said in a statement. 'With its pro-business orientation and respect for the rule of law, Florida is a great place for Trump Media to officially call home.' Several other companies have opted to reincorporate outside of Delaware in recent years. Most notably, tech billionaire and close Trump ally Elon Musk moved his companies out of the state after clashing with a judge over his multibillion-dollar Tesla pay package. Musk reincorporated Tesla and SpaceX in Texas while moving Neuralink to Nevada. He had previously moved the incorporations for both his social platform X and his tunneling firm, The Boring Company, to Nevada in 2023. He has also encouraged other companies to move, saying last February, 'If your company is still incorporated in Delaware, I recommend moving to another state as soon as possible.' Delaware state lawmakers passed changes to corporate law earlier this year amid growing concerns about the number of companies exiting the state. 'Delaware is the best place in the world to incorporate your business, and Senate Bill 21 will help keep it that way, ensuring clarity and predictability, balancing the interests of stockholders and corporate boards,' Gov. Matt Meyer (D) said in late March, when he signed the bill into law.

Veterinarian lawmaker files bill to protect veterinary practices after tiger protests

Sen. Bill Wheat and Sen. Eddie Lambert stand in the back of the Senate Chamber. (Allison Allsop/Louisiana Illuminator) A Louisiana state lawmaker who's also a veterinarian wants protections for his profession after protestors demonstrated outside his clinic last year against Gov. Jeff Landry's plan to bring a live tiger to an LSU football game. Senate Bill 21 by Sen. Bill Wheat, R-Ponchatoula, would add veterinarians, veterinary staff and veterinary practices to an existing state law that prohibits the battery of certain health care workers and criminalizes unlawful disruptions at certain medical facilities. The bill was unanimously advanced by the Senate Judiciary C committee and will next be discussed on the Senate floor. Wheat told committee members a fellow veterinarian brought the idea for the bill to him after a workplace violence incident at their practice. The lawmaker said he believes veterinary practices were inadvertently left out of the original legislation. 'I don't think there's any surprise that animals are very important to people's lives,' Wheat said. 'We certainly would like to be respected in that same manner as the protections in that definition.' Wheat said members of his veterinary clinic staff were threatened and intimidated by protesters over a 'misunderstanding of how we were going to deal with the LSU tiger situation.' Wheat was among the Republican officials, who are also veterinarians, who met with Gov. Jeff Landry and the dean of LSU's Veterinary School about the governor's request to bring Mike VII to a game at Tiger Stadium. The university had done so for many years before officially ending the practice in 2017. Wheat said he was always opposed to bringing the tiger in a trailer cage to the sidelines. 'For many reasons, I felt strongly this was not a good idea and expressed my opinion at the time,' Wheat said in a social media statement in November. Landry later opted to bring in a rented tiger from Florida to briefly participate in the pregame festivities at the LSU-Alabama game in November 2024. Wheat confirmed to the Illuminator before the game that the tiger would be present but later clarified in a social media statement that he was 'never consulted with or involved in any subsequent decisions concerning the use of another tiger for such purposes.' 7 things to know about today's hearing to increase shipping in Hawaiʻi by 20-76%

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Young Brothers, LLC is a company that ships goods between each of our islands here in Hawaiʻi. They bring everything from shipping containers and cars to basic household items, and they have asked for a large price increase in shipping costs. And with Hawaiʻi depending on 98% of all goods coming from some place other than Hawaiʻi, most everyone relies on nearly everything being shipped in. Here's what you need to know: 1. Big price increase: Young Brothers is asking for a 27% increase in its shipping rates, which would add an extra $26 million in revenue. They claim this is needed to cover company costs like buying new barges and tugs to keep the service safe and reliable. 2. Inflation and rising costs: The company says the price increase is also needed because their operating expenses are rising and shipping volumes have not returned to the levels they were at before the COVID-19 pandemic. 3. Water Carrier Inflationary Cost Index (WICI): Young Brothers wants to use a new system called WICI. This will adjust shipping rates every year based on inflation, but it would be limited to a 5% increase each year to keep costs reasonable for customers. Click to read more about Hawaiʻi's Senate Bill 2756 that created WICI and to read more about Hawaiʻi's Senate Bill 21 that authorized public utilities to automatically implement WICI.4. Temporary rate increase: In addition to the big price hike, the company plans a Temporary Rate Increase starting in April 2025. This would be a 20% increase in rates that will be followed by another 5% increase in July 2025. 5. Specific Rate Increases: Some types of shipping will see large increases, such as: 45% increase for refrigerated cargo. 41.5% to 76.6% increase for minimum shipping charges. 35% increase for certain container shipments. 6. Specific rate increases by island: Here's a breakdown of how much shipping will increase for each island: Oʻahu to Hawaiʻi (Hilo and Kawaihae): 35% increase for most rates. Oʻahu to Kauaʻi (Nawiliwili): 35% increase for most rates. Oʻahu to Maui (Kahului): 35% increase for most rates. Oʻahu to Molokaʻi (Kaunakakai): 41.5% to 76.6% increase for some rates. Oʻahu to Lānaʻi (Kaumalapau): 35% increase for most rates. 7. Public input: The public can share their opinions about the price increases by writing or speaking at hearings.
