Thune talks Trump accounts, student visas
BERESFORD, S.D. (KELO) — President Donald Trump's 'big beautiful bill' will have a direct impact on people in KELOLAND, including babies. Trump accounts would set aside one thousand dollars for each child born in Trump's second term. The accounts would be funded by the U.S. Treasury.
'Being able to set money aside into an account that is going to increase as the economy expands and succeeds that, it would, it's a benefit that would be passed on to families. So, I think that's sort of the thinking behind it,' said Senator John Thune.

Thursday, Senator Thune also weighed in on Elon Musk's time as a Special Government Employee coming to an end.
'I think we all, as taxpayers, want to make sure that taxpayer dollars are being used in the most efficient, effective way possible. And I think that was his objective, and I think there are people around who will carry on that work, but I wouldn't be surprised if you see him emerge again at some point, for a return visit,' said Thune.
We also asked Thune about plans to revoke student visas for Chinese students attending colleges throughout the U.S.
'So, I think what the objective in all this is to make sure that if somebody comes into this country to do that kind of research, that they've been properly vetted to make sure that they don't represent any sort of a national security threat, given the sort of adversarial relationship we have with China right now. So, I think it'll be a policy that continues to evolve and continue to be evaluated,' said Thune.
Thune says the goal is to make sure people doing important research are in the country for the right reasons.
