Ukraine has liberated Dniproenerhiia village in Donetsk Oblast, commander claims

Ukrainian forces have recaptured the village of Dniproenerhiia in Donetsk Oblast's Volnovakha district and advanced in two key front-line sectors in the past two months, Lieutenant General Serhii Naiev, commander of the Vuhledar tactical group, reported on April 15. "I have been in command of the tactical group for two months. During this period, we managed to reduce personnel losses by 20%, regain control of the village of Dniproenerhiia, and improve the tactical situation in two critical areas," Naiev wrote on Telegram. Dniproenerhiia, located along the Mokri Yaly River in the Komar community, has long been a contested area in eastern Ukraine. The settlement, which had a pre-war population of some 100 people, lies 35 kilometers (20 miles) northwest of occupied Vuhledar. Naiev did not specify the date of the settlement's liberation. The monitoring group DeepState lists the village as partially occupied as of April 14, with reported Russian advances in the nearby settlements of Katerynivka, Terny, and Pishchane. Naiev said Ukrainian troops eliminated about 9,500 Russian soldiers and destroyed 51 tanks, 166 armored vehicles, and 819 pieces of other equipment over the past two months in the sector. The commander also noted that Russia is ramping up its assault operations, deploying more troops and hardware to the front. The reported tactical gains come amid a broader escalation by Russian forces, particularly in Donetsk Oblast. Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said on April 9 that Russia's new spring offensive "has actually already begun," with fighting intensifying around key locations, including Pokrovsk, a major logistics hub northwest of occupied Donetsk. CNN, citing Ukrainian General Staff reports, said Russian troops have been attempting breakthroughs along multiple sectors just as Washington renewed pressure for a ceasefire. Despite mounting battlefield pressure, Ukrainian forces continue to conduct counterattacks to contain Russian advances and reclaim lost ground. Ukraine reportedly regains control over Dniproenerhiia village in Donetsk Oblast

Lieutenant General Serhii Naiev, commander of a tactical group on one of the fronts in Donetsk Oblast, has said that Ukrainian troops regained control of the village of Dniproenerhiia in Volnovakha district and improved the tactical situation on two critical fronts. Source: Naiev on Facebook and in a comment to Ukrainska Pravda Quote: "I have been in command of the tactical group for two months. During this period, we managed to reduce the loss of personnel by 20%, regain control of the village of Dniproenerhiia, and improve the tactical situation on two critical fronts." Details: In a comment to Ukrainska Pravda, Naiev added that the settlement was taken under control about two weeks ago. Meanwhile, Dniproenerhiia is halfway in the red zone on Deep State maps [red colour on the map indicates Russian occupation – ed.]. Naiev stressed that during this time, the group's units had killed about 9,500 Russian military personnel and destroyed 51 tanks, 166 armoured combat vehicles, and 819 vehicles (armoured vehicles, jeeps, motorcycles and ATVs). He added that about 70% of the Russians' losses were caused by UAV strikes. Naiev also said that during the "last large-scale offensive" on the Vesele-Skudne front, the Russians used 5 tanks, 14 armoured personnel carriers and 6 armoured vehicles. The Russian convoys were spotted by aerial reconnaissance and, as a result of "fire damage and UAVs", "more than 100 occupiers were killed and 4 tanks, 9 armoured personnel carriers and 3 armoured vehicles" were destroyed. Ukrainian forces trapped Russians near Andriivka in Donetsk Oblast

Lieutenant General Serhii Naiev, commander of a tactical group on one of the fronts in Donetsk Oblast, has revealed that Ukrainian defence forces succeeded on the Andriivka–Oleksiivka front last week thanks to sufficient manpower and firepower. Source: Naiev on Facebook Quote: "The success of our actions in countering enemy offensive operations is primarily determined by having sufficient manpower and means. These are the key preconditions for the effective use of pre-organised reconnaissance, command, control and coordination." Details: Naiev said Ukrainian defenders lured Russian forces into a pre-prepared trap on the Andriivka–Oleksiivka front last week and managed to stop their advance. Ukrainian forces then delivered a crushing fire attack using several brigades and units. Over 600 artillery rounds and more than 200 attack drones were used. Quote:"This is the result of clear coordination, early detection of the enemy's plans and, most importantly, having the necessary resources at our disposal to respond appropriately." More details: Naiev added that he is now working directly with brigade and battalion commanders, sergeants and troops to ensure proper coordination between units and the execution of tasks in sectors where Russian forces are trying to break through. Background: On 3 April, the analytical project DeepState reported that Russian troops had launched three mechanised assaults near Andriivka, Donetsk Oblast, involving 17 pieces of military equipment and had suffered significant losses. Ukrainian command ordered troop withdrawal from Kurakhove "pocket", Donetsk Oblast, in February

In mid-February 2025, Ukrainian military command decided to withdraw troops from the Kurakhove "pocket", preserving the lives of soldiers and improving defence in Donetsk Oblast. Source: Ukrainska Pravda sources in military circles; Lieutenant General Serhii Naiev, commander of the Velyka Novosilka Operational and Tactical Group, on Facebook Quote from Naiev: "The most important task for the command is to preserve the lives and health of personnel. Therefore, on one section of the front, a decision was made to withdraw forces and resources from unfavourable positions. This not only allowed us to save our soldiers but also strengthened our defence. The enemy is suffering losses, and we can act more effectively." Details: Naiev did not specify the date or location of the military operation. However, the data obtained by Ukrainska Pravda indicates that it refers to the withdrawal from the Kurakhove "pocket" in February. For reference: After Ukrainian troops withdrew from the town of Kurakhove, Donetsk Oblast, in January, Russian forces gradually extended their flanks, forming a semi-encirclement between the villages of Dachne, Zelenivka and Andriivka. By late February, the semi-encirclement had narrowed between the settlements of Kostiantynopil in the north and Ulakly in the south. Background: In February, Naiev received a combat order to assume the position of commander of the Velyka Novosilka Operational and Tactical Group. He stated that this decision was made by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This occurred shortly after Naiev's interview with Ukrainska Pravda, in which he spoke about the failures in war preparations and the responsibility of the supreme commander-in-chief. Ukraine withdraws from one front-line sector in Donetsk Oblast, commander says

Editor's note: This is a developing story and is being updated. Ukrainian forces have withdrawn from one front-line sector in Donetsk Oblast to preserve troops and improve defensive operations, Lieutenant General Serhii Naiev, the commander of a tactical group in the region, reported on March 18. "This allowed us not only to save our soldiers but also to improve our defense. (Russia) is suffering losses, and we can act more effectively," Naiev wrote on Facebook. It remains unclear which section of the front line the commander was referring to. Naiev, the former commander of Ukraine's Joint Forces, noted that his leadership of the tactical group in Donetsk Oblast has now entered its second month. The general emphasized that over the past month, coordinated efforts by scouts, drone operators, artillery, mortar units, tanks, and infantry have destroyed more than 30 Russian armored vehicles and taken out 2,000 Russian soldiers. 'This has significantly reduced the number of Russian attacks in our direction,' he said. According to Interfax Ukraine's undisclosed source, Naiev has been appointed to command the Velyka Novosilka tactical group. The occupied village of Velyka Novosilka lies some 20 kilometers (12 miles) east of the administrative border between the Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk oblasts. The Ukrainian military reported that Russia has stepped up attacks in the southern Zaporizhzhia Oblast over the past few weeks but denied Russian claims of capturing the village of Stepove. Throughout the fall of 2024, Russian forces made operational gains in Donetsk Oblast, including areas near Toretsk and Chasiv Yar. Fighting remains intense in the eastern region, and Russian troops continue to advance, albeit slowly, this year.
