Misra is no stranger to Indian politics. A senior advocate in the Supreme Court, he first entered Parliament in 1996 from Puri on a Congress ticket. An alumnus of Delhi's prestigious St. Stephen's College and a law graduate from
Delhi University
, Misra later shifted political gears and joined the
Biju Janata Dal
(BJD), returning to the Lok Sabha from the same constituency in 2009.
He served as the MP from Puri for three consecutive terms—2009, 2014, and 2019—before stepping back from the political spotlight ahead of the 2024 elections. The 64-year-old lawyer-politician also has a son and a daughter from a previous marriage.

Mahua Moitra is a politician and a former investment banker, and has carved a distinct space in Indian politics with her bold speeches. Moitra served as an MLA from Karimpur before winning the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat in 2019 as a Trinamool Congress candidate. Though expelled from Parliament in 2023 over a controversy, she made a strong comeback by winning again in 2024.
