Searches are now ongoing to recover any further human remains, gardaí said. State Pathologist, Dr Sally Anne Collis and Forensic Anthropologist Laureen Buckley assisted by the Garda Technical Bureau have carried out preliminary examinations at the scene. "The homicide investigation, led by a Senior Investigating Officer and the Serious Crime Unit Kerry Garda Division is ongoing, supported by the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI), a garda spokesperson said. The Irish Independent can confirm that a member of the public contacted gardaí on Friday after uncovering what they suspected was potential human matter. As a consequence, An Garda Síochána reconvened a search in this area and recovered body tissue, a senior source has confirmed. The Garda Technical Bureau arrived on the scene at Mike Gaine's farm earlier today. The vicinity of the slurry tank was previously examined by gardaí investigators as part of their extensive searches for the missing farmer. However following contact from a 'third party' on Friday who was concerned about what they came across, gardaí returned to the scene. Investigators soon established that body tissue was present. 'We got a phone call from a third party and a search was recommenced. The indications are that the body tissue is likely to be human,' according to the senior source. The case was recently reclassified as a homicide investigation, giving gardaí further investigative powers.
