Mother of Philly rapper LGP QUA prepares for public viewing, celebration of love
The Brief Tamara Davis, the mother of slain Philly rapper, 30-year-old Qidere Johnson, also known as LGP QUA, is remembering her son as the "Voice of the Youth." Surveillance video shows two of the three suspects police are looking for. Family members are pleading for the shooters to turn themselves in. PHILADELPHIA - The mom of 30-year-old Qidere Johnson, also known as LGP QUA, is speaking out after her son was fatally shot by multiple suspects who are being sought by police. What we know On Monday, the Philadelphia Police released a surveillance video of two suspects who they say were wearing masks when they shot Qua in an apparent robbery. It happened on the 3900 block of M Street in Juniata Park just before 5 p.m. Sunday the evening of May 11, Mother's Day. Police say the two got away in a black Nissan Altima driven by another person. That car has since been found by the police. What they're saying "I'm still trying to process this," said Tamara Davis. It's been almost a week and a half since her son was taken from her on the day she should've been celebrating being a mom. Davis says her only child left her house and never came back. "I'm dealing with it the best I can because I'm still waiting to see my son walk up the street from Mother's Day," she said. This Thursday reality will begin to set in when she'll be allowed to view her son's body for the first time. "As a mother it's hard. I spoke to God. I gotta let him go and I'm fighting with that," said Davis. Her son, 30-year-old Qidere Johnson is known to Philly and around the world as LGP Qua. He was a rapper but even deeper than that he was a poet, a storyteller and was known widely as The Voice of the Youth. "My son was light. I knew he was gifted," said Davis. Qua rapped powerfully about the challenges and disparities of the city and its young people. "Taking my son, they messed up," she said about the people who shot him to death. Davis sat alongside Qua's two children. "I miss him and I love him," said his 6-year-old son Shyair. His daughter Sanyi is 10 years old. "We're going to miss that he was funny. His funniness," she said. Keisha Washington is urging the suspects to turn themselves in. "You running and trying to hide is not worth it. Ya'll took somebody special. Nobody deserves to die from gun violence," said Washington who is a cousin. Davis has this to say to the youth who looked up to and supported her son. "You don't have to be amongst the followers. Be a leader and I knew my son that's what he was," she said. What's next A public viewing will be held Friday, May 23, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Batchelor Brothers & Jones Chapel at 7112 North Broad Street in Philadelphia. The Service of Love will take place on Saturday, May 24 at the MET at 858 North Broad Street in Philadelphia. The viewing is at 8 a.m. and the service is at 10 a.m. The Source The information in this story is from Philadelphia police and the vctim's mother.

King Charles and Prince William Team Up for Rare Royal Ceremony at Westminster Abbey
King Charles and Prince William are stepping out to attend the Service of the Order of the Bath The historic Order recognizes the work of military officials and senior civil servants The special service happens only every four years and William will be installed as Great Master of the Order during the ceremony at Westminster AbbeyKing Charles and Prince William are joining forces for an unusual royal duty. On May 16, the King, 76, and the Prince of Wales, 42, stepped out together to attend the Service for the Order of the Bath at Westminster Abbey in London. The commemoration was extra special as it is the Order's 300th anniversary year and the Service for the Order of the Bath happens only every four years. The latest iteration is King Charles' first Service as sovereign and one with a special spotlight for Prince William. The heir to the throne will be installed as Great Master of the Order during the ceremony, which includes taking an oath and installing five Knights. The Most Honourable Order of the Bath was created through the Letters Patent of George I in May 1725 and recognizes the work of military officials and senior civil servants. The Order revives an older tradition tracing back to medieval times. According to that lore, soldiers would prepare to receive their knighthood with a ritualistic bath symbolic of spiritual purification and partake in a vigil the night before receiving their honor. The Order of the Bath features three classes of members: Knight Grand Cross or Dame Grand Cross, Knight Commander or Dame Commander and Companion. Women were admitted to the Order of the Bath in 1971 with Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester (and the mother of modern working royal Prince Richard) named as the first Dame Grand Cross. King Charles last attended the Service of the Order of the Bath in May 2022 as the Prince of Wales, the traditional title for the male heir to the throne and one he bequeathed to Prince William upon his accession to the throne in September 2022. It's traditional for the Prince of Wales, as Great Master of the Order of the Bath, to attend its signature service every four years, while the sovereign only goes to every other service, or every eight years. King Charles was installed as Great Master by Queen Elizabeth in 1975 when he was 26 and William follows in his footsteps today. The father and son both stepped up into elevated royal roles following the Queen's death in September 2022 at age 96, with a source telling PEOPLE that the transition brought them closer than ever. "Talking about the future of the country and their future roles has strengthened their bond," a source who knows both King Charles and Prince William told PEOPLE then. The royal family was rocked by two cancer diagnoses announced just a few weeks apart in 2024. Buckingham Palace said that February that King Charles was diagnosed with cancer and Kate Middleton shared that March that she was also undergoing treatment for cancer. In a remarkably personal interview on the ground in Cape Town, South Africa in November for his 2024 Earthshot Prize, Prince William spoke about the emotional toll of the "brutal" year. Can't get enough of PEOPLE's Royals coverage? to get the latest updates on Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle and more! "It's been dreadful. It's probably been the hardest year in my life," the Prince of Wales said. "So, trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult. But I'm so proud of my wife, I'm proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done. But from a personal family point of view, it's been, yeah, it's been brutal." Princess Kates shared in September that she completed chemotherapy and said in January that she is in remission, while the King's treatment for cancer continues into this year. Parishioners pack local church for Easter Vigil
PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Christians celebrate one of the most important liturgies this weekend. Worshippers across the globe and right here in Northeastern Pennsylvania packed churches for an Easter Vigil celebration. Saturday's Easter Vigil celebrates Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead. Through fire, family, and faith, Saints Peter and Paul Parish put on a traditional service in front of a large Easter weekend crowd. A fiery glow grew from the center of Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Plains Township. The bonfire beginning the Easter vigil marks 'The Service of Light,' as Jesus Christ conquers death. 'Only the night knows the hour that Christ rose from the dead. One of the main movements during the Easter Vigil is bringing that light into the darkness,' stated Steve Chronowski, parishioner, choir member The light separated, but not undimmed spreads from the paschal candle to parishioners' taper candles. Similar to Steve Chronowski, Sandi Harowicz has been a parishioner of this parish for decades. Both members see this Holy Saturday night liturgical service as a significant one. 'It's like a big climax to the other days that preceded this one. This is like the grand finale type of thing,' explained Sandi Harowicz, parishioner. Meaningful moments of song, reading and prayer make up the moving mass. Other faithful parishioners feel most connected to the word of the lord. 'It's just the same story over and over that god loves us so much and when you think about that it is fantastic,' expressed Geri Ulichney, parishioner. Father Jack Lambert has led this Easter Vigil service for more than a decade. He says the story of this celebration has stayed true since the beginning of time. 'But there's always something new and that's god's intervention. That's why I find it exciting especially on this night,' stated Father Lambert. And as darkness turns to light, Ulichney hopes those gathered in her parish practice what is preached after this holiest of weeks. 'I hope people are a lot kinder to each other and care about one another because that is what god wants us to do, love each other like he has loved us,' voiced Ulichney. Easter Sunday mass will be celebrated Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. and again at 10:30 a.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Parish. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
