Kentucky lawmakers meet for interim session

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT)- Legislative meetings are beginning to pick back up in Frankfort as Tuesday marked the start of the Commonwealth's Interim Session. Owensboro neighborhood USPS mail delivery suspended for over a month The Interim Session is a time for lawmakers to discuss police ideas that could become bills during the next legislative session in 2026. The first topic on the agenda was education. Lawmakers heard a presentation on a new accountability model, which the Kentucky Department of Education has been working on for two years. The goal of the new model is to create more 'vibrant learning experiences' with state testing that meets students where they are. The new model could be approved as soon as next summer. The Interim Session is scheduled to continue through the end of the year, and you can find the updated schedule here. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Monsoon session of Parliament from July 21 to August 12

New Delhi: The Monsoon Session of Parliament will begin on July 21 and conclude on August 12, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced on Wednesday. Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will convene at 11 a.m. on the opening day, marking the start of the first parliamentary session in over three months. The session is expected to be politically charged, especially against the backdrop of heightened demands by the Opposition for a special session. Sixteen opposition parties had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, pressing for an immediate session to discuss the recent Pahalgam terror attack and the retaliatory Operation Sindoor -- a cross-border military operation targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). In response, the government has now formalised the Monsoon Session schedule, asserting that all issues, including those raised by the Opposition, can be taken up during the scheduled sitting. The Budget Session earlier this year ran from January 31 to April 4 in two phases and saw the passage of several key legislations, including the Waqf Amendment Bill which seeks to focus on improving the management of waqf properties, empowerment of stakeholders relevant to management of waqf properties, improving the efficiency in survey, registration and case disposal process, and development of waqf properties. While the core purpose remains to manage waqf properties, the aim is to implement modern and scientific methods for better governance. The Mussalman Wakf Act, 1923, was also repealed. Apart from the Waqf Amendment Bill, the government also passed the 'Tribhuvan' Sahkari University Bill, 2025, for the establishment of 'Tribhuvan' Sahkari University to provide education, training, and capacity building in the cooperative sector and undertake research and development activities in related areas. The Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025, was also passed to simplify the laws for the requirement of passports or other travel documents in respect of persons entering into and exiting from India and for regulating matters related to foreigners, including the requirement of a visa and registration.

TSTC Abilene Campus to launch new facility with trade programs

ABILENE, Texas () – Texas State Technical College (TSTC) Abilene Campus is nearing completion of a new facility that will provide new programs to meet the increasing demand for trade workers in the Big Country. The Big Country is seeing an ever-expanding growth of new industries and infrastructure, and with that growth comes a need for workers. Texas State Technical College in Abilene is using that need as a new opportunity for expansion with its campus. The project began for an additional building for TSTC classes in April of 2024 and has seen lightning movement with its construction. This 52,800 square foot building came with a total project cost of $30.3 million and is looking to open its doors very soon. To help pay for this project, TSTC was allocated funding through the Capital Construction Assistance Projects, under Senate Bill 52, during the 87th Texas Legislative Session in 2021, for expansion projects at 7 of the 10 campuses across the state. With the new facility also comes new programs of study, and Provost for TSTC West Texas, Andy Weaver, outlined what those new programs will be. 'In this building, we're going to be adding diesel technology, electrical line worker, plumbing, and HVAC. It's going to be an exciting offer, and it's serving a lot of our industry partners across the region,' Weaver said. Weaver went on to outline how TSTC prides itself on having the tools to bring real-world scenarios into the classroom for more in-depth student learning. One example of this is the state-of-the-art ambulance simulator, which is only found in a few select locations across the globe, and which TSTC students in medical studies have already been using. This new campus will be no different. The plumbing program will have a pit inside the facility filled with dirt and a variety of pipe layouts to simulate plumbers having to locate and repair pipes in the field. Weaver spoke about another addition to their Electrical Lineworker program that will be used as a teaching aid while prioritizing the safety of the students. 'We've already built the pole yard for that program. And then behind the building, there will be a short pole yard where students will be able to learn how to do the work at the top of the pole without having to climb to the top of the pole,' Weaver said The construction is expected to be completed by July of this year, allowing students to attend the new facility starting in the fall semester of 2025. Weaver stated that they are preparing for the new students and are actively working to ensure everything is ready for their arrival. 'We've already began accepting applications. We're already working those applications. We already have some students enrolled in those programs. We are absolutely pushing to get more applicants. Right now, we need more applicants, want more applicants. But we're headed in the right direction,' Weaver said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Ringgit Rallies On Hopes Of Trade Resolution, Stronger Sentiment

The ringgit extended its upward momentum against the US dollar on Tuesday, opening at 4.1835/2035, firmer than Monday's close of 4.1990/2035, buoyed by positive sentiment surrounding the local unit. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said the currency's performance was likely driven by speculation that trade agreements may be reached, as US tariff measures could weigh heavily on US economic growth. 'On that note, we shall expect the ringgit to remain strong against the US dollar today,' he told local media. Afzanizam also noted that the US Dollar Index (DXY) continued to hover below the 100-point level, standing at 99.831, despite the US Institute for Supply Management (ISM) services index for April coming in better than expected at 51.6 points (Consensus: 50.2 points). Adding to the ringgit's strength was market confidence stemming from the Special Parliamentary Session on US tariffs held on May 5. During the session, the government expressed its commitment to implement the necessary measures to cushion the impact of the tariff shocks introduced by US President Donald Trump. The ringgit was stronger across major currencies. It rose against the Japanese yen to 2.9111/9252 from 2.9192/9225, strengthened versus the euro to 4.7320/7546 from 4.7629/7680, and appreciated against the British pound to 5.5595/5860 from 5.5868/5928. The local note also climbed against ASEAN currencies. It advanced versus the Singapore dollar to 3.2410/2573 from 3.2644/2682, improved vis-à-vis the Thai baht to 12.6942/7692 from 12.7497/7747, and gained against the Philippine peso to 7.50/7.54 from 7.53/7.54. It also appreciated versus the Indonesian rupiah to 254.1/255.5 from 255.1/255.5. Related
