Bengals UDFA provides injury update, why he picked Cincy

Bengals UDFA provides injury update, why he picked Cincy Seth McLaughlin on why he wanted to play in Cincinnati: 'Great offense. They compete for Super Bowls. I've won a championship at every level.' Expects to be fully cleared by camp. #Bengals @FOX19 — Jeremy Rauch (@FOX19Jeremy) May 9, 2025 It's not a great secret why an undrafted free agent might choose the Cincinnati Bengals. Just ask Seth McLaughlin, the former Ohio State standout who fell out of the draft this year after suffering a torn Achilles last winter. At rookie minicamp this week, McLaughlin told reporters, including Fox 19's Jeremy Rauch, that he chose the Bengals because of the offensive fit and the fact Joe Burrow's team is a Super Bowl contender. Also tucked into McLaughlin's commentary is the slight reveal that he should be good to practice this summer as his rehab continues. RELATED: Bengals' Trey Hendrickson, Germaine Pratt standoffs updated Whether McLaughlin is fully cleared for training camp or not, it will be interesting to see if the Bengals approach this as almost a redshirt year for him to get healthy before competing for the 53 as a sophomore. Either way, the Bengals very obviously got great value with McLaughlin and fans getting to hear these types of comments is certainly refreshing: RELATED: Bengals' Geno Stone gets brutally honest about his contract restructure

Seth McLaughlin circled as Bengals UDFA most likely to make final 53

Seth McLaughlin circled as Bengals UDFA most likely to make final 53 Ohio State center Seth McLaughlin was easily the biggest name for the Cincinnati Bengals in undrafted free agency this offseason. It shouldn't come as a shock, then, to think that McLaughlin has the best shot at the final 53-man roster this summer, either. Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleski picked McLaughlin as the UDFA most likely to make the 53 while pointing out his injury woes: "Unfortunately, McLaughlin also suffered a season-ending torn Achilles tendon, which could hamper his participation in training camp. Still, the Cincinnati Bengals should try to sneak McLaughlin onto the roster somehow, because he could potentially replace Ted Karras in the lineup." RELATED: 2025 NFL draft: RAS scores for new Bengals rookie class The Rimington Trophy winner is a solid prospect, but it might be a little early to suggest he'll get the better of Ted Karras right now. But much of the 53 projection really comes down to health. The Bengals were more than happy to get a local prospect at a good value and improve depth. Behind Karras, another fan-favorite prospect in 2024 seventh-rounder Matt Lee remains in the fray for the long-term job, too. RELATED: What draft experts said about new Bengals DL Shemar Stewart

Ohio State football NFL undrafted free agent tracker

The path to the NFL sometimes takes unexpected turns. Of course, the traditional route is to play a few years of college and do well enough to hear your name called in the NFL draft. That's not always the case for everyone, though, and although the stories of carving out a different path are as plentiful as signing as a draft pick, it does happen and more frequently these days than in the past. For that reason, we like to follow what happens with Ohio State football players that don't get selected in the NFL draft, because there's always the undrafted free agent market that heats up quickly after the last pick of the draft is complete. Advertisement The crop of Buckeyes available to sign as undrafted free agents isn't as large this year because a whopping 14 went during the draft in Green Bay, but there are a few. Here's a look at all of the former Ohio State players that signed with NFL teams as undrafted free agents in 2025. Seth McLaughlin, Center - Cincinnati Bengals McLaughlin was expected to go somewhere in the draft, but last year's Rimington Award winner, which goes to the best center in college football, was not selected. It undoubtedly had to do with the Achilles injury he's coming off of from the tail-end of last year. He was listed as the best available prospect at the time the NFL draft ended, so the Bengals could be getting a bargain. If he's anywhere near as good as he was with Ohio State coming off injury, this is a major steal in the draft. Gee Scott Jr., Tight End - New England Patriots Scott Jr. came to Ohio State as a wide receiver, but his size and development fit more as a tight end. It took a while for him to carve out a niche, but he had a productive senior season and still has a lot of untapped potential. He could do a lot worse than landing with the Patriots, who have a history of utilizing and developing tight ends. It'll be interesting to see what kind of mark he can make in camp. Josh Fryar, Offensive Lineman - Arizona Cardinals Fryar may not have gotten a ton of accolades like some of the other Ohio State offensive linemen, but he comes with a ton of experience, having started 30 games over his career. He struggled early in his career with pass protection but became an anchor of the line as the Buckeyes' solid right tackle as the team went on a historic run through the College Football Playoff, taking home the national title. Now, he'll join a host of former Ohio State players already in Arizona and try to earn a roster spot.
