Introducing the Senior Gang of Bullies
Episode 2 of One High School Heroes starts where we left off with Ui-Gyeom learning Seung-joon's fighting skills on the spot and landing a punch. His advantage does not last long since Seung-joon is good at punching back. Ui-Gyeom decides to take Yoon-ki's advice. He holds onto Seung-joon, and they roll down a flight of stairs.
Seung-joon's knee is hurt, and Ui-Gyeom takes the chance to end the fight by beating up Seung-joon until he cannot stand. Hong-ii and Jin-woo are terrified, and Yoon-ki is even more amazed at Ui-Geum's ability to hold out in a fight.
Ui-Gyeom asks Yoon-ki to change clothes after getting a text from his father. Yoon-ki then gives him a cream to hide the bruises on his face. Ui-Gyeom finds his father quarrelling with the tutors at the academy about his exam results.
For a moment, he thinks back to fighting against Seung-joon until his mother wakes him up the next morning. During breakfast, Ui-Gyeom is livelier and even asks his mother for more rice. He also promises his father that he will work harder at the academy.
At school, Seung-joon, Hong-II, and Jin-woo have to answer their seniors in the bullying ring about why a newbie won in a fight against someone regarded as a first-grade fighter. The leader, Ji-hyuk, orders them to retaliate even if it means smashing a brick onto Ui-Gyeom's head. After school, they wait for Ui-Gyeom, and Seung-joon smashes the back of his head with a wooden stick.
UI-Gyeom tries to tell Yoon-ki not to call an ambulance so his parents do not know about the fights. However, Yoon-ki has no choice because Ui-Gyeom becomes unconscious. In a flashback, Ui-Gyeom goes back to when his brother was taken out of their house in a body bag.
Ui-Gyeom wakes up in the hospital. He is frantic and wants to leave, but his mother and father arrive and have him return to bed. Yoon-ki lies that Ui-Gyeom tripped down the stairs on their way to the bus stop. His mother and father are worried about him. His father tells him that he cannot get hurt, not even get sick. At the hospital, Ui-Gyeom's mother has a panic attack when he sees a person wheeled into the emergency room, as he thinks back to Soo-Kyum.
Seung-joon worries about Ui-Gyeom, so he goes to the hospital to check on him. He runs into Ui-Gyeom's mother as she is having a panic attack and wants to help. Da-bin says she is okay and recognises his uniform. She informs him that Ui-Gyeom is OK, and Seung-joon asks to leave.
Da-bin notices Seung-joon's wound on the face. She tells him to apply ointment or it will scar. Da-bin wonders if boys always get hurt. She asks Seung-joon to take care of himself, or as a mother, she will worry. Seung-joon apologises to Da-bin and leaves.
After leaving the hospital, Yoon-ki visits another boy in a coma. He tells him that he just met another person like him. Ui-Gyeom's mother tries to get through to him at home so he can share his experiences in the new school. She asks him to stay home and rest the next day, but Ui-Gyeom insists on attending school since he does not want to get left behind. Da-bin thinks Ui-Gyeom resents him and apologises, but Ui-Gyeom says he has to study and goes to his room.
The next day at school, Ui-Gyeom asks Seung-joon to stop following him, and he will not pursue the hit on the head. Seung-joon asks him to lay low henceforth and not come at him either. However, Ji-hyuk and his gang do not plan to let Ui-Gyeom go. They burst into their classroom and asked Yoon-ki and Ui-Gyeom to show up on the rooftop during lunch.
At the rooftop, Ji-hyuk lectures Ui-Gyeom on being cocky, saying he was too lenient then, and that is why they are acting out. Ui-Gyeom does not fight back and asks Ji-hyuk not to hurt Yoon-ki. Ji-hyuk asks Ui-Gyeom to apologise to Seung-joon and say he will do anything he asks. Yoon-ki silently warns Hong-II to stop harassing Ui-Gyeom, while Ji-hyuk asks Seung-joon to hit Ui-Gyeom.
Seung-joon refuses to hit Ui-Gyeom, and Ji-hyuk beats him up instead. Ui-Gyeom cannot take it anymore and stands up for Seung-joon. Yoon-ki had said he is good at noticing fighting talents. A group of seniors is watching the show, so Ui-Gyeom asks him how many people will be left to deal with after he fights Ji-hyuk. Yoon-ki says two people, so there will be no one left to fight after he knocks down the two people.
The Episode Review
This show just keeps getting more thrilling. This episode got a little more emotional as it gives more backstory on what happened to Ui-Gyeom's brother. His mother still gets panic attacks about the incident. Also, his father is harsh but not as abusive, and he seems to care so much about Ui-Gyeom.
The riveting action comes at the end of the episode when Ui-Gyeom confronts the senior bullies. Seung-joon chooses not to beat up Ui-Gyeom when ordered to, which is a sign of defiance. In the following episodes, they might stand together against Ji-hyuk and his gang of bullies. The episode left us with high hopes and yearning for some gripping action. Will Ui-Gyeom hold off against Ji-hyuk, or will he end up on his knees? Let us find out in the next episode.
