'Boardwalk Empire' Star Michael Pitt Posts Bail After Sexual Abuse Arrest

Michael Pitt has regained freedom after sexual abuse charges tied to disturbing allegations involving his former girlfriend. The actor has a history of unsettling behavior, including a 2022 incident in New York City where EMS was called due to his erratic actions in public. Michael Pitt's latest charges stem from claims that he sexually assaulted his then-partner and later attacked her with blunt objects. Michael Pitt Denies Sexual Assault And Strangulation Charges Spread Pictures / MEGA Pitt was released from custody after posting $100,000 bail following his arrest on multiple serious charges, including sexual abuse and assault with a weapon. He was reportedly taken into custody on May 2, around 9 p.m., and charged with assault with a weapon, sexually motivated, strangulation, sexually motivated, sexual abuse, and forcible compulsion. The 44-year-old pleaded not guilty to all counts. According to TMZ, his attorney, Jason Goldman, strongly denied the allegations, calling them unsubstantiated and outdated. "Unfortunately, we live in a world where somebody like Mr. Pitt — an accomplished professional who would never so much as contemplate these crimes — can be arrested on the uncorroborated word of an unhinged individual," Goldman said. He also claimed the accusation surfaced years after the alleged events during what he described as a fully consensual relationship. "This case will be dismissed," Goldman stated confidently. The Allegations Against The Actor Are From Previous Incidents While Pitt once gained attention for his acting in "Dawson's Creek," "Hannibal," and "Seven Psychopaths," he was also rumored to be difficult on set, leading to his character being killed off after just two seasons on "Empire." Now, these allegations have put him back in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Prosecutors claim Pitt was involved in four violent domestic incidents between April 2020 and August 2021 at his Bushwick home, all involving his then-girlfriend. The indictment states that Pitt allegedly groped the woman, sexually assaulted her, and used blunt objects, including a wooden plank and a cinderblock, to attack her during separate episodes physically. Inside The TV Personality's Troubled Past The star's renewed public attention brought his past behaviour into the spotlight. The Blast reported that Pitt was previously involved in multiple troubling incidents. In 2022, he was hospitalized after police found him behaving erratically in New York City. A resident had called authorities claiming a man was throwing objects from a window, only for it to be discovered that Pitt was actually hurling items from a rooftop, dangerously close to pedestrians below. When officers arrived, they found Pitt in a state they classified as emotionally disturbed and took him to a nearby hospital for evaluation. That incident came just months after another arrest in July of the same year, when Pitt allegedly snatched a phone from a man on the street and punched him several times before fleeing. He was later charged with petty theft, and the victim, luckily, only sustained minor injuries. Pitt's Public Breakdown Led To Psych Hold Pongo / MEGA Pitt's manic state was shocking, seeing as he was initially known for keeping a low profile. Though he had mostly stayed out of the spotlight, neighbors at his Brooklyn building had reportedly noticed an increase in law enforcement visits tied to concerns about his mental health. TMZ later released disturbing footage of the aftermath, showing Pitt restrained on a stretcher, clearly agitated and confused. In the video, he thrashed and struggled to break free, only to suddenly pause, scan his surroundings, and appear to realize the seriousness of the situation. He eventually slumped back in exhaustion, as though accepting that there was no way out. His behavior prompted authorities to place him on an involuntary psychiatric hold. In such cases, the initial hold lasts up to 72 hours, though it can be extended to as many as 60 days if necessary. Michael Pitt Appeared Agitated During The New York Incident MEGA Pitt's concerning behavior was not limited to the rooftop. Photos taken during the incident showed the musician visibly agitated as he wandered barefoot through the streets of New York. In one image, Pitt was seen with his shirt hanging loosely around his neck, wearing only shorts and no shoes. His appearance and erratic behavior painted a picture of someone clearly not well. At the time, neither Pitt nor his team issued a statement about the incident, leaving the public with more questions than answers. Unfortunately, this was not the first sign of trouble for Pitt. Reports suggested that he had been struggling for years, with signs of instability allegedly dating back as far as 2013. What is next for Michael Pitt?

US TV star arrested for 'attack with a cement block and sexual assault'

US actor Michael Pitt, best known for starring in Dawson's Creek and Boardwalk Empire, has been accused of sexual abuse, as well as attacking an ex-girlfriend with a block of cement. The TV star, 44, was arrested on Friday night around 9pm in New York City and arraigned at Brooklyn Supreme Court on 'two counts of first-degree sexual abuse and other related charges', according to documents seen by the New York Post. The incidents stem from four separate domestic incidents which allegedly took place between April 2020 and August 2021 at the actor's home in Bushwick. Pitt, who famously played Jimmy Darmody opposite Steve Buscemi on HBO's hit drama Boardwalk Empire between 2010 and 2011, 'forcibly fondled' his former girlfriend, prosecutors allege, before – at a later date – sexually assaulting her and hitting her with a wooden plank. He is then, in June 2021, accused of attacking her with a cinderblock – a concrete block with a hollow interior used in building – before, two months later in August 2021, strangling her. TMZ separately detailed the charges against Pitt as 'assault injury with a weapon sexually motivated, strangulation sexually motivated, sex abuse, and forcible compulsion'. The Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Seven Psychopaths actor has pleaded not guilty to all charges and posted bail, which was set at $100,000. Pitt's lawyer told TMZ: 'Unfortunately, we live in a world where somebody like Mr Pitt – an accomplished professional who would never so much as contemplate these crimes – can be arrested on the uncorroborated word of an unhinged individual. 'In reality, this baseless claim is suspiciously raised some four or five years after the alleged incident, at a time when the two parties were in a completely consensual and voluntary relationship. This case will be dismissed.' It's not Pitt's first brush with the law in recent years, after starring as Henry Parker in Dawson's Creek from 1999 to 2000. Pitt was previously arrested in July 2022 for assault and petty larceny after allegedly snatching a man's phone out of his hand and repeatedly punching him in the head. The man suffered minor injuries. Later that year, in September, he was taken into police custody after an anonymous report of a male throwing items at people from the rooftop of a building. The actor was apprehended at the scene but not charged after being deemed an 'emotionally disturbed' individual. Video footage obtained by TMZ at the time showed Pitt being strapped to a gurney by EMS technicians after his public outburst before he was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Pitt's most recent film credits include 2023's Asphalt City (previously called Black Flies when it premiered at Cannes), opposite Sean Penn and Tye Sheridan, as well as Reptile with Benicio Del Toro and Justin Timberlake. More Trending Day of the Fight, also released in 2023, saw him play a boxer on a journey of redemption after prison, and reunite with Boardwalk Empire alumni as it co-starred Buscemi and was written and directed by Jack Huston Pitt is due back in court on his recent charges on June 17. Actor Michael Pitt has been charged with multiple offences including first-degree sexual abuse and assault, following allegations of repeated violence against his former partner. The Brooklyn District Attorney's Office confirmed that the 44-year-old was arraigned in Brooklyn Supreme Court after being arrested on Friday. Court documents outline four alleged domestic incidents involving Pitt and his ex-girlfriend between April 2020 and August 2021 at his Bushwick residence. Charges include first-degree criminal sex act, third-degree criminal sex act, second-degree strangulation, and multiple counts of assault and attempted assault. Prosecutors claim Pitt sexually assaulted the victim, struck her with a wooden plank, and attacked her with a cinderblock during separate episodes. One incident in August 2021 reportedly involved strangulation. The alleged assaults follow a pattern of escalating violence detailed in the indictment. Pitt, best known for his role as Jimmy Darmody on HBO's Boardwalk Empire, also appeared in Seven Psychopaths and Murder by Numbers. During Friday's arraignment, Pitt pleaded not guilty. Judge Joanne Quinones set bail at $100,000, which he posted shortly thereafter. Pitt is expected to appear in court again on 17 June.
