Prayer meets mark Sikh Guru's anniv
Lucknow: Prayer meets were held in gurdwaras on the 420th death anniversary of the fifth guru of Sikhs, Guru Arjan Dev, on Friday.
Shabad Kirtans were sung at Yahiyaganj Gurdwara by Pawandeep Singh.
While head priest Paramjeet Singh shed light on the life of Guru Arjan.
A devotee Milind Singh, who visited the gurdwara, said, "I came to pray for the peace and prosperity of my family and country."
At Naka Gurdwara, Gurjinder Singh recited the path. Priest Balwinder Singh said, "Guru Arjan Dev ji was a symbol of tolerance and sacrifice and he endured several tortures and was martyred by making him sit on a burning pan."
A devotee, Surendra Singh Bakshi, said, "Guru Arjan Dev was martyred by Mughal emperor Jahangir."
Another devotee, Devendra Chaddha, said, "Guruji sacrificed his life to save the religion and it is our duty to follow his path and every human should take inspiration from him."
Simranjeet Kaur, 24, said, "I came to pray for my father who is fighting from blood cancer."
At Aashiana Gurdwara, Gurdeep Singh shed light on the history of the Guru. Sharbat and cold water was served to the public all day and in the end langar was served.
