Tuten's sneaks inside the cut line, 2 other local golfers miss cut
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The Club Car Championship field pared down to the top 60 golfers it in the field including ties after the second round of the tournament at Deer Creek Course at the Landings.
Coming into the second round, Armstrong Atlantic alum Shad Tuten needed to be aggressive after an opening round 73. He produced a bogey-free round until the final hole. The box on the scorecard was the only blemish in his round.
He had five birdies on the day. He shot 68.
As for Savannah native Hughes Threlkeld, he started the day one shot better than Tuten at even par. However, the Benedictine alum struggled to find his rhythm from the first 18 holes, when carded six birdies.
Instead, he had four bogeys and a double bogey. The University of North Georgia golfer qualified through a sponsor's exemption but will miss the cut.
Bluffton native Bryson Nimmer needed a little magic on the final hole to stick around for the weekend. The Clemson alum finished on the ninth hole.
He was able to make birdie to get to the cut line of three under par. Nimmer, who is playing in just his second tournament this season on the Korn Ferry Tour, also qualified through a sponsor's exemption.
