Wayanad landslide survivors yet to get rent amount in May

Kozhikode: Adding to the woes of Chooralmala-Mundakkai landslide survivors who are living in rented accommodation, the state govt has not paid its rent assistance to these people this month. Many of the affected families said it is already 11 days into May, but govt's rent payments are yet to be credited into their bank accounts. Around 600 landslide survivors used to get a monthly rental amount as part of the rehabilitation efforts of the state govt."Usually, the landslide survivors used to receive rent payments in their bank account on the sixth of every month. But this month it has not been deposited yet. The homeowners are asking for rents from the survivors and it has led to unpleasant talks between survivors and homeowners," said Janashabdam Action Committee convener Shajimon to sources in the district administration, the delay in rent payments is due to insufficient funds in the govt account as the available funds in that account were recently used to facilitate the govt's takeover of Elstone Estate where the township project for landslide survivors is coming up.
