UP madrasas to get modern makeover: Minister Danish Azad Ansari highlights reform agenda
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) May 23 (ANI): In a major step towards modernising madrasa education in Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath government is set to introduce a comprehensive curriculum overhaul. UP Minority Affairs Minister Danish Azad Ansari shared details of the reform on Friday, outlining the government's vision to bring madrasas into the mainstream education fold. Minister Azad said, 'Ek hath me Quran, ek hath me laptop' is our government's agenda to upscale the madrasa education. 'Madrasas will now include compulsory English, Hindi, computer education, science labs, mini ITIs, and sports, ensuring all-round development of students,' said Ansari to ANI. To standardise academic quality, the NCERT curriculum will be adopted from classes 1 to 3, while the SCERT syllabus will be followed from class 4 onwards. The initiative also includes a teacher training program to equip educators with modern teaching techniques. 'We're planning these reforms at the administrative level to ensure smooth implementation and infrastructural readiness,' Ansari added. 'Our aim is to empower madrasa students with skills that make them competitive and future-ready.' The state government sees this initiative as a transformative move to blend traditional religious education with contemporary academic and vocational training. Earlier, educational reforms have been proposed in Uttarakhand, where Mufti Shamoon Qasmi, president of the Uttarakhand Madrasa Education Board, has said that students in state madrasas will be taught about Operation Sindoor, launched by the Indian Armed Forces against terror infrastructures in Pakistan. Qasmi said that a delegation met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and congratulated him on Operation Sindoor. The delegation also conveyed its thoughts to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The delegation took inspiration from Operation Sindoor and decided to teach the students about the operations conducted by the Indian forces in the madrasas of Uttarakhand. Qasmi highlighted that Operation Sindoor is included in the syllabus of Uttarakhand's madrasas as it is the country's 'paramount.' 'A delegation of the Muslim community met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and we congratulate the defence minister on Operation Sindoor. We conveyed our thoughts that we are with PM Modi. Taking inspiration from that, we thought of a new beginning, and we will teach the children studying in Madrasas about Operation Sindoor... Pakistan killed our innocent civilians... We are not those who believe in the two-nation theory. We don't differentiate between Hindus and Muslims... We are including it in the syllabus as the country is paramount... We will begin this from 2025', Mufti Shamoon Qasmi told ANI. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 civilians dead. As part of the operation, Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, eliminating over 100 terrorists linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. On May 10, both countries agreed to the cessation of hostilities. The Indian government has decided to send a delegation of its MPs from various parties to different countries to brief them about the Operation Sindoor. (ANI)

U'khand madrasas to include Operation Sindoor in syllabus
Dehradun: The Uttarakhand Madarsa Board has decided to introduce 'Operation Sindoor' in its curriculum across the state, a move that will see students learning about the recent military operation. The announcement was made by Mufti Shamoon Qasmi, President of the Uttarakhand Madrasa Education Council, who stated that the step is aimed at instilling a sense of patriotism among students. Uttarakhand has 451 madrasas, with a student population of nearly 50,000. This decision came after Qasmi met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi on Tuesday, accompanied by a delegation of educationists, intellectuals, and Sufi scholars. During the meeting, he congratulated the Defence Minister on the success of Operation Sindoor under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singh, and hailed the Indian armed forces for giving a heavy blow to terrorist camps in Pakistan. He further praised the Indian Army's bravery and highlighted Uttarakhand's legacy of valour, describing it as the 'land of heroes'. Qasmi added that the courage demonstrated by the armed forces has earned admiration from people across the country and that madrasa students, too, should learn about this national pride. 'We implemented the NCERT curriculum in madrasas across the country, connecting children with mainstream education. This reform has brought high-quality education to these institutions... We want to share the successful story of the 'Operation Sindoor' with our children so that future generations understand how our soldiers executed it with strength, bravery, and courage, ensuring no civilian casualties,' he told IANS. He noted that a meeting of the curriculum committee will be convened shortly to finalise the inclusion of a chapter on Operation Sindoor in the syllabus. Uttarakhand Waqf Board President Shadab Shams lauded the initiative, telling IANS, 'This is Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, a land also known as Sainya Dham (land of soldiers). If children studying in modern madrasas here do not learn about Operation Sindoor, then where else will they learn it?'

Uttarakhand madrasas to include Operation Sindoor in syllabus
The Uttarakhand Madarsa Education Board on Tuesday said that it will include Operation Sindoor in the madrasa curriculum. Mufti Shamoon Qasmi, the board's chief, made the announcement following a meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. 'Uttarakhand is not just devbhoomi, which is land of gods, but also the veerbhoomi meaning the land of soldiers,' Qasmi was quoted as saying by The Hindu. 'We have decided to include Operation Sindoor and stories of other military operations done by our defence forces in the syllabus which will be taught…so that our students get to know about the valour of the Indian forces.' Describing Pakistan as a ' nefarious country ', Qasmi said that Operation Sindoor was necessary because 'Pakistan is an evil country and we had to teach them a lesson after they took the lives of our citizens', ANI reported. He also described the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack as a sign of disregard for the Quran. #OperationSindoor will be taught as a part of curriculum in all Madarsas of Uttarakhand. Uttarakhand Madarsa Board under patronage of CM Shri @pushkardhami ji has already implemented NCERT syllabus and imparting modern education. @narendramodi @PMOIndia @ukcmo — Mufti Shamoon Qasmi (@muftishamoon) May 20, 2025 More than 50,000 students are enrolled in about 451 madrasas in Uttarakhand, The Hindu reported. According to the 2016 Uttarakhand Madarsa Board Act, the board has the authority to decide the curriculum, select textbooks and materials, and develop course manuscripts, The Indian Express reported. Qasmi had previously said that Sanskrit, along with Hindu epics such as the Mahabharat and Ramayan, would be introduced in madrasas. However, the proposed changes have not yet been implemented, The Indian Express added. On May 10, India and Pakistan reached an 'understanding' to halt firing following a four-day conflict. Tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad had escalated on May 7 when the Indian military carried out strikes – codenamed Operation Sindoor – on what it claimed were terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The strikes were in response to the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which killed 26 persons on April 22. The Pakistan Army retaliated to Indian strikes by repeatedly shelling Indian villages along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. At least 22 Indian civilians and eight defence personnel were killed.
