Kansas Turnpike crash leaves 1 dead, 2 injured
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed one man and hospitalized two others. It happened Wednesday morning in the westbound lanes of the Kansas Turnpike east of Lawrence in Leavenworth County. The KHP said a 2025 Honda Civic was eastbound on Interstate 70 when the driver veered off the road. His vehicle struck two drainage tubes, traveled through a ditch, and then reentered the westbound lanes, driving in the wrong direction. The Civic struck a Mercedes-Benz van head-on. The drivers of the car, an 18-year-old Lawrence man, and the van, a 34-year-old Kansas City, Missouri man, were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries. The KHP said all were wearing seatbelts. KCK man killed following head-on crash on I-70 in Leavenworth County
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City, Kansas man is dead following a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 in Leavenworth County on Wednesday morning. The crash was reported just before 8:30 a.m. on westbound I-70 near the Lawrence service area. Racist flyers posted in Northland neighborhood where teen killed The Kansas Turnpike Authority (KTA) reports the driver of a Honda Civic was traveling eastbound and the driver of a Mercedes-Benz van was westbound when the driver of the Honda went off the road, bounced off two drain tubes, continued through a ditch and entered the westbound lanes. The KTA said the Honda crossed over both lanes and struck the Mercedes-Benz head on. Both drivers were taken to area hospitals with suspected serious injuries. A passenger in the Mercedes-Benz was pronounced dead and has been identified as 28-year-old Shane Greiner, of Kansas City, Kansas.
