Dragged To Taluka Office On Stretcher Over Land Dispute, 90-year-old Woman Dies In Tamil Nadu

Last Updated: The woman's son alleged the deputy taluka officer rejected her patta application five times and demanded Rs 5 lakh per acre as bribe, despite all documents being in order A 90-year-old woman from Naranapuram, near Palladam in Tamil Nadu's Tiruppur district, died after being taken on a stretcher to the taluka office for a land transfer — a tragic end to her battle against alleged land grabbing and official apathy. The elderly woman, who was in frail health and undergoing treatment, had recently discovered that her 27-acre property in Madappur village had been usurped by others when she attempted to transfer the patta to her heirs. She had submitted an application to the taluk office seeking to reclaim the land. Despite her condition, on June 10, authorities insisted that the elderly woman, who was undergoing treatment for age-related health issues, appear in person. Her family was forced to bring her in an ambulance, lying on a stretcher. Her son, Shanmugasundaram, alleged that the deputy taluka officer had rejected her application five times and demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh per acre to transfer the patta, even though all the documents were in order. He also accused the official of colluding with those who had encroached on their land. The woman died without receiving timely medical care. Her family has blamed the revenue department for her death, citing negligence and harassment by officials.
