Thakur, Nitish Reddy go wicketless as England Lions pile 192/3 against India A

India A pacers Shardul Thakur and Nitish Kumar Reddy struggled again as England Lions reached 192/3 on Day 2 of the second unofficial Test in Northampton. Fifties from Emilio Gay and Tom Haines helped the hosts reduce the deficit after India A were bowled out for 348. read more Shardul Thakur has failed to pick up a wicket so far in the 2nd unofficial Test. Image: Reuters Northampton: India A pace bowling all-rounders Shardul Thakur and Nitish Kumar Reddy continued to dish out underwhelming performances as the England Lions made 192 for three at the end of second day of the second unofficial Test here on Saturday. India A, overnight 319/7, were folded for 348 in their first innings, but fifties of Tom Haines (54, 88 balls) and Emilio Gay (71, 117 balls) helped the Lions to reduce the deficit to 156 runs when the stumps were drawn early because of bad light. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The Indian think-tank will be a tad concerned about the inability of Thakur and Reddy to take wickets, as both are in contention for the lone pace-bowling all-rounder's slot in the India team for the five-match Test series against England. In the first four-day match at Canterbury, Thakur took two wickets but leaked 105 runs in 28 overs while Reddy's lone wicket came at the cost of 63 runs in 14.5 overs. Here too, they did not show much improvement despite plenty of swing on offer. Thakur bowled six wicketless overs, while Reddy, despite managing bit of swing occasionally, failed to take wickets in his six overs on the day. However, England Lions batters, particularly Haines and Gay, made merry of a struggling India A attack to bring up respective fifties. Haines added 94 runs for the second wicket with Gay in just 128 balls, and the ease of that alliance underlined the struggles of India A bowlers. However, spinner Tanush Kotian was quite impressive while drawing false shots from the batters quite often, and his persistence was rewarded with the scalp of Gay, who looked set for a hundred. However, Jordan Cox (31 not out), who helped Gay milk 69 runs for the third wicket, appeared to have mastered the conditions and bowlers for a long haul on the third day Sunday. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Pacer Anshul Kamboj was impressive once again, looking sharp and picked up the wicket of opener Ben McKinney early in the innings. In the opening session, the Lions bowlers took the new ball in the first available opportunity and finished off the India A innings, taking three wickets for 29 runs. Brief Scores: India A 1st innings: 348 all out vs England Lions 1st innings: 192/3 in 46 overs: (Tom Haines 54, Emilio Gay 71; Anshul Kamboj 1/38, Tushar Deshpande 1/44, Tanush Kotian 1/21).

India A vs England Lions Live Updates, Day 3: Anshul Kamboj, Shardul Thakur eye breakthroughs

India A vs England Lions Live Score, Day 3: Anshul Kamboj and Shardul Thakur will look to get early breakthroughs India A vs England Lions Live Score, Day 3: If day one of the warmup four-day unofficial Test between England Lions and Inda A belonged to the visiting team, day two certainly belonged to the hosts. They might still trail by 320 runs, but with only two wickets down and centurion Tom Haines at the crease, the Lions will be backing themselves to get closer to India A's total during day three. ...Read More For India A, the ambition will be to take wickets, something which has been tough throughout this match. Their bowlers haven't enjoyed the same joy as their batters did on day one of the contest, with none of the young pace corps stepping up to take initiative and really manufacture something special. Anshul Kamboj did impress with right line-and-length bowling, but India A will be disappointed with Mukesh Kumar and Harshit Rana conceding at more than 5 runs per over during their spell. India A also tried out plenty of spin, Harsh Dubey bowling the most overs for them on day two, and while that resulted in a wicket, the Ranji Trophy season's leading wicket-taker didn't find the same consistent joy. With Max Holden attacking from one end and Haines holding strong, India really need to figure out how to crack the code and find quick wickets on the morning of day two, otherwise risk throwing away the excellent start provided by Karun Nair and company. England Lions will score, and score quick like the senior team, and inasmuch could prove to be a big threat. The positive for India will be the ability to attack England Lions during the morning session, which is certainly when the ball is moving the most and the bowlers present the most threat. It will present an opportunity to put some pressure on the batters. If not, this match will likely meander its way to a draw with only two days of play left. It will be more important from an Indian perspective to get back in to bat so that Yashasvi Jaiswal can get more time in the middle and get accustomed to English conditions, and facing bowlers used to them, as well as Nitish Kumar Reddy, who had a poor showing in the first innings. India A vs England Lions 1st Unofficial Test: When and where to watch LIVE-Stream, squads and more

India A are all set to face the England Lions in their first unofficial Test on 30 May. While it's common for India A to play matches in the host country ahead of an overseas tour, these fixtures carry added significance this time, with attention firmly on the next generation of Indian players following the retirement of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from the Test cricket. Two regulars from the senior Test team — Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Kumar Reddy — will feature in the match. The side will be led by Abhimanyu Easwaran, and many others named in the 18-member India squad for the England tour are also part of this India A lineup, including Karun Nair, Shardul Thakur, Akash Deep, and Dhruv Jurel. Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans batters Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill could join the India A squad after the first unofficial Test. With several names in the reckoning to take Virat Kohli's coveted No. 4 spot, Karun Nair will be keen to strengthen his case by piling on the runs, much like he has in the domestic circuit. It's also an important opportunity for Shardul Thakur to make a case for his inclusion in the India XI, potentially ahead of other all-rounders like Reddy or even Ravindra Jadeja. India A: Abhimanyu Easwaran (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Karun Nair, Dhruv Jurel (VC) (WK), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shardul Thakur, Ishan Kishan (WK), Manav Suthar, Tanush Kotian, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep, Harshit Rana, Anshul Kamboj, Khaleel Ahmed, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sarfaraz Khan, Tushar Deshpande, Harsh Dubey. England Lions: James Rew (captain), Farhan Ahmed, Rehan Ahmed, Sonny Baker, Jordan Cox, Rocky Flintoff, Emilio Gay, Tom Haines, George Hill, Josh Hull, Eddie Jack, Ben McKinney, Dan Mousley, Ajeet Singh Dale, Chris Woakes, Max Holden. The India A vs England Lions 1st unofficial Test match will be played from 30 May to 2 June at the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence in Canterbury. The match will be broadcast from 11AM local time i.e. 3:30PM India Time. Unfortunately, the unofficial Test will not be available to watch in India and will only be available to stream via the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) website and app.

Shardul Thakur Reveals What Makes Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant "Very Promising Players For The Future Of India"

Ahead of the five-match Test series against England, star India all-rounder Shardul Thakur opened up and shared his thoughts on the contrasting personalities of Test skipper Shubman Gill and vice-captain Rishabh Pant. On Saturday, right-hand batter Shubman Gill was appointed as the new Test captain for India, while wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will serve as his deputy in the longest format, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for the highly anticipated five-match Test series. Speaking on the appointment of Gill and Pant, Shardul Thakur, while speaking to Boria Majumdar on Revsportz, said, "They both are big players and the future of India for sure. They are very different in character - where Shubman is a very serious and calm, composed kind of person when it comes to the game, and Rishabh is a funny and lively guy. But this again is their USP in their own way. They have contributed towards the game on the biggest stages and crucial ones, and that makes them very promising players for the future of India." The series against England will take place from June to August 2025, with matches at Headingley (Leeds), Edgbaston (Birmingham), Lord's (London), Old Trafford (Manchester), and The Oval (London). India has added Abhimanyu Easwaran to the Test squad. He has been a domestic cricket stalwart for Bengal, with 101 first-class games, 7,674 runs at an average of 48.87, 27 centuries, and 29 fifties behind him. He had a disappointing tour to Australia last year, where he scored just 36 runs in four innings. Following Kohli's retirement from the longest format of the game, a couple of budding and solidified figures like Sai Sudarshan and Karun Nair have been added to the middle-order. In the bowling department, right-arm seamer Jasprit Bumrah will be leading the unit on English soil. Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh and Shardul Thakur are the other fast bowlers in the squad. This will be India's first bilateral series since both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from Test cricket earlier this month. India's Test squad for England series: Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.
