Sharjah Women's Sports wins 11 medals at UAE Fencing Championship
Stunning performance On Saturday, the club's players competed in the Public Individual Championship, with impressive results across all weapons. In the epee, Lamar Al Nahla took first place, while Aphrodite Hatem Ahmed took second place. In the foil, Habiba Mohammed continued her brilliance by winning first place, while Zainab Musa took third place. In the sabre, Mariam Al Deghidi won the gold medal after a consistent and outstanding performance. On the second day, Sunday, April 27, the club's players participated in the Under-13 individual and team championships. In the team competitions for the Under-13 category, the epee team, consisting of Al Anoud Al Saadi, Aphrodite Hatem Ahmed, Zainab Al Hosani, and Sheikha Al Zaabi, won first place. The sabre team, consisting of Afra Al Balushi, Maryam Al Daghidi, and Fatima Al Balushi, also won the gold medal. The foil team, consisting of Habeeba Mohammed, Zainab Musa, Shamma Al Muhairi, and Alia Al Alili, took second place after a distinguished competitive performance. In the Under-13 individual competition, Mahra Al Zarouni and Noura Al Ketbi won two bronze medals in sabre, while Reem Al Serkal won a bronze medal in epee. These young players continue to make a strong presence on the podium. Improved mental readiness Captain Hassan Al Zawari, the fencing technical director and epee and foil coach, said that the event saw a clear improvement in the players' mental readiness and tactical discipline, especially in how they dealt with matches under pressure. The performances in the epee and foil were organised and calmer, with a tangible response to technical instructions during the competitions. He added that the club will continue to focus on strengthening the technical and defensive aspects to ensure consistent performance in upcoming matches. The sabre performance was characterised by improved physical performance and increased offensive effectiveness, with greater awareness of the timing of offensive and defensive initiatives. Despite the difficulty of some matches, the team maintained a spirit of challenge, and the club is constantly working to develop the players' tactical sense to enhance results in the future. Sheikh Sultan issues Emiri Decree to reorganise Sharjah Women's Sports
His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued an Emiri Decree concerning the reorganisation of the Sharjah Women's Sports (SWS). The Decree states that the SWS shall enjoy independent legal personality and full legal capacity to carry out all necessary legal actions to fulfil its objectives. It will function as an independent government entity with both financial and administrative autonomy. Under the Decree, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, will chair the SWS. An experienced and qualified adviser in the SWS's field of work will support her. The headquarters will be based in the city of Sharjah, with the possibility of establishing branches in other cities and regions of the Emirate as per the chairperson's decision. The SWS is tasked with the number of core objectives like supporting the sports sector comprehensively and advancing women's sports across the UAE, with a particular focus on Sharjah: Showcasing the achievements of Emirati sportswomen and enabling their participation in leadership roles and global competitions. Establishing a modern, integrated system to develop administrative practices in women's sports according to global best practices. Empowering national talents and developing human capital in the field of women's sports. Nurturing a new generation of female sports leaders in collaboration with relevant federal and international organisations. Promoting sports culture, raising public awareness of its importance, while encouraging female participation in sports, and creating a motivating sports environment. To achieve these goals, the SWS is authorised to develop policies, programmes, and strategies for advancing women's sports and training sports leaders, while overseeing club plans. Train, refine, and attract talent in all sports fields to support global competitiveness. Create a comprehensive framework for women's sports aligned with local and international trends. Establish a legal framework that keeps pace with developments in women's sports. Appoint ambassadors for women's sports on local, regional, and global levels. Form sustainable partnerships with local, Arab, and international organisations to further its goals. Develop long-term plans and financial policies to fund local and international sports programmes. Expand the number of Olympic sports in which women can participate. Build and upgrade sports facilities dedicated to women's sports. Implement quality systems, ISO standards, and institutional excellence practices in SWS-run facilities. SWS will sign contracts, agreements, and memoranda of understanding with relevant entities. The body will apply governance standards to sports clubs and oversee their financial expenditures. Discover and support emerging sports talents. Nominate club players for sports scholarships, subject to internal criteria and leadership approval. Issue sports release permits for registered female athletes employed in the Emirate. Organise sports tournaments, festivals, conferences, and seminars. Invest the SWS's assets in various types of investments. Undertake any additional responsibilities assigned by the Ruler or the SWS's chairperson. A director, appointed by a decision from the chairperson, will manage the SWS. The director will report directly to the chairperson and hold the following powers: Propose the SWS's general policies and oversee their implementation upon approval. Supervise operations in accordance with current laws and regulations, issuing internal directives and instructions. Approve financial and administrative regulations and internal systems after ratification by the chairperson. Propose the annual budget and final accounts for the chairperson's approval. Supervise expenditures in line with the approved budget and relevant regulations.
