NFR leverages tech to overcome weather-releated challenges
Guwahati: The
Northeast Frontier Railway
(NFR) has implemented cutting-edge technological solutions to address
weather-related challenges
including
landslides
, drainage problems and embankment stability in Assam's
Lumding-Badarpur hill section
under the Lumding Wednesday, NFR chief public relations officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma stated that this mountainous region, extending across Dima Hasao and Cachar districts, serves as a crucial link connecting Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur and Barak Valley to mainland India.
"Having a difficult topography and encountering severe monsoon conditions, the route becomes quite difficult to access due to natural hazards, posing safety issues to the rail route specifically," said address these issues, NFR has conducted aerial and geophysical assessments covering an 80-kilometre stretch of the mountainous terrain."The techniques used in this section are advanced drone- based LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), high resolution aerial imaging and electromagnetic surveys," he geophysical assessment technology enables detection of underground faults, soil saturation zones and subsurface water accumulation, allowing early identification of potential landslide-prone areas and unstable Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) has been introduced at key locations to ensure tunnel safety and structural integrity during peak monsoon periods.
