Presenters Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley ran into an unfortunate technical blunder while trying to get an update. Ben, 46, told the audience: "Phil is cooking up a delicious dish for the whole family and he's live from The This Morning allotment." "It looks wonderful down there, Philip. We're trying to connect up his ear - can you hear us, Phil?" The technical blunder saw Phil unable to hear Ben as he instead continued preparing the dish he was working. Cat laughed as she quipped: "He could be just ignoring us", while Ben remarked: "Oh, dear." Looking for a solution, Ben asked out loud: "Has anyone got a phone? Someone phone him. Can the cameraman hear us?" He added: "So, nobody can hear us at the moment. This is quite fun, we can just watch them and see what they get up to." The 50-year-old squirmed as soap star Beth Cordingly shared a flushed picture of him at a party during her chat on the sofa, since the pair studied together 25 years ago. This Morning's soap guru Sharon Marshall appeared on the show to chat about what fans can expect in the coming weeks. And actress Beth Cordingly, 46, who plays Ruby Fox-Miligan in Emmerdale, joined her to chat about her alter-ego's upcoming storylines. But Sharon was desperate to know what Ben was like when he was younger. She said: 'Oh tell us about being at uni with Ben, come on!' The 50-year-old squirmed as soap star Beth Cordingly (pictured on the right) shared a flushed picture of him at a university party during her appearance Cat chimed in: 'That's exactly what I want to know.' Ben joked: 'It sounds very similar to the Emmerdale cast... it was like one big happy family!' Beth chimed in: 'You were this interesting mix because you were big in the rugby thing...' The show then put a snap of a baby-faced Ben on our screens. The TV star rocked a green open shirt, black leather jacket and a moustache. Ben joked: 'That's the interesting mix, right there!' But a confused Cat asked: 'What are you doing there?' while Sharon asked: 'Can we zoom in on those eyes please?' Ben said: 'No, no, don't get too close!' Sharon joked: 'That man is in trouble.' Ben asked Beth: 'Was that at the end of year party, I think? It was a 70s party...' 'I think I'm dressed as Tony Ferrino. That wasn't real hair!' Cat joked: 'I was about to say... is that your own moustache?' Ben chimed in: 'We had all these incredibly talented actors, I was in the dance department, which was a small department next to it. 'It was just a brilliant, extraordinary time. 'It's been amazing watching the likes of Beth, Elliot and Claudia, all those guys that we were at university with, go on and be acclaimed in their field.' Beth replied: 'It's really lovely.' Ben graduated from University of Birmingham with a BA in Dance, Drama and Theatre Arts. The telly favourite has previously opened up about how he fell into the showbiz industry. Ben said: 'I fell into television, I'd been at university and I'd done a degree in dance. 'And I think in my head I was going to go on to drama school and I was going to get into acting at some point down the line.'
