Club captain Hutchinson to leave Millwall
Millwall club captain Shaun Hutchinson will leave the club this summer when his contract expires. The 34-year-old defender departs having made 268 appearances during his time at the Den, scoring 14 times. One of those goals was a memorable one at Bristol Rovers on the final day of the 2016-17 season that saw them qualify for the League One play-offs and eventually return to the Championship. Hutchinson, who joined from Fulham in 2016, played just 11 times this season in all competitions, with nine of those games coming in the league. "On and off the pitch, Shaun has been a fantastic leader for many years and a great servant to Millwall," director of football Steve Gallen said. "As we enter into our ninth consecutive Championship season, his goal against Bristol Rovers to secure the play-offs must always be remembered as one of the biggest in our history. "We would all like to thank him for his outstanding contribution over the past nine years. Shaun will always be welcome at our football club." Murray Wallace, Duncan Watmore and Aaron Connolly will also leave when their deals expire next month. Left-back Wallace joined the club from Scunthorpe United in 2018 and made 226 appearances, scoring 13 goals. Watmore arrived from Middlesbrough in 2023 and scored 13 times in 80 appearances. Connolly signed in the most recent January window and played 14 games for Alex Neil's side. Millwall say that talks over new deals continue with George Saville, George Honeyman, Danny McNamara, Liam Roberts and George Evans. The Lions have exercised options to extend the deals of midfielder Billy Mitchell, as well as defenders Joe Bryan and Wes Harding. Josh Coburn, Zak Sturge, Ryan Wintle and Calum Scanlon will all return to their parent clubs following the conclusion of their loans.
